I think you people are missing the part where he pushes it into the grass. He's not lifting like most plebes do, he is just pushing it over. That is next level shoveling technique.

It's not.

These links show the way people shovel snow. I'm describing something entirely different.

No, a snow blower that doesn't work.

Agreed. When I have to get a snowblower is when I start wintering in Florida.

I enjoy putting on a podcast and shoveling. I enjoy making the tall grass short in the summer too.

I try to shovel early so the sun can hit it and melt the remnants. I actually don't mind doing it. But, the bottom of the driveway after the streets been plowed is brutal. There I try to shovel as much as possible in the plows direction. Couple neighbors refuse to do their sidewalks so I walk over and do a quick path for the walkers and school kids. Love good hard work.

You're going to have to make a video, which, subsequently, will also function as a poor man's patent.

Report those sons of bitches. It should be a city ordinance to shovel the sidewalks.

I realize that. I'm not claiming to be reinventing shoveling. I'm just saying the way I do it is efficient and there aren't any wasted movements.

I have a concrete driveway.

I once. . . Once. . . . Had a buddy drive his snowplow across it. . . and it created so many pits that my father and law looked at me like I was a fucking buffoon for letting him do it.

I had them patched, but its still not the same.

Another shitty thing about having a long concrete driveway is that everyone and their mother uses your driveway to turn around in - especially at night. I have to think that it is a visibility thing, where blacktop driveways are so dark people don't like to venture down them or something.

i have a 130 ft of driveway out in the middle of the country. i told my wife, it was time to buy a blade for the tractor. Well my brothers father in law who lives down the street, comes down after every snow and does it all with his gator. he's retired and loves it. heated cab and all. so now i just let him do it.

he was finishing up this morning when i left for work at 6.

Nas didn't invent the exclamation point. He did, however, invent the interrobang.

That's a good deal if you can keep it going, worth a bottle or case of his favorite each month during the Summer.

Mine is blacktop, 600 feet to the front of the house, another 15K square feet around to the garage and over to the barns. It took me 45 minutes to clear it all tonight, all in the comfort of the heated cab, listening to ND get waxed by the Blue Bernsteins.

If I was to choose anything else, it would be a front-mounted blower on a cab tractor, but my combinations don't quite add up- the four-wheel drive loader tractor doesn't have a cab, the cab tractor is 2WD. Maybe an upgrade someday, but not likely.

My coworker has a Kubota utility vehicle with a cab and snowblower, my Gator is 4X4, but no cab. I'm too old for that cold shit, or for turning around to see a back blade or blower. If I really need to move the piles back, I can pick a calm, sunny warmer day and use the loader, it will go through most any snow pile.

So, you "plow" a shovel width path down one side of the sidewalk or driveway edge, then "plow" perpendicularly one shovel width at a time?

That works great if the snow isn't too deep.

A lot of the driveways out in Del Webb are very fancy brick or at least with brick trim. Our pitch was that we didn't use plows, just snowblowers and shovels. That sold a lot of people. It was a $40,000 cash infusion into our construction business at a time when the economy was collapsing. But now we had to do 85 driveways by hand.

When the snow was really heavy I had to reach out to my Mexican guys. We paid them an hourly rate. I had a huge fight with one of my partners who didn't want to pay the guys for the time it took coming and going to Huntley. I told him if that was the case he could go find his own workers.

My wife shoveled yesterday morning while I was in the shower. When I asked her why she did that, she said I always did it so she didn't mind.

20 minute morning bathroom time.

That's including dropping the morning deuce.

A good snowblower is not only really fun to use but also it's worth the decreased chance of a cold death. Shoveling is not exercise. You don't see your local gym bringing in piles of snow and saying "lift that up and put it over there".

In Libertyville yesterday morning, a 75 year old man, probably doing the best thing for his heart by using a snowblower, gets backed over by a snow plow and killed.
