Out here I’d imagine it’s the ice part of the forecast but I haven’t heard anything yet. I’m told after the next day thy cancel they are out of snow days and the year will get longer. No way they are in school Wednesday and Thursday. Probably Tuesday too.

Not if it snows from 3 am-9 am.

How much snow are we talking about? It's going to be 40 degrees tomorrow. Looks like easily the best weather we are going to have this week. As Rogue said you may as well cancel school for the entire week.

5-9 inches. Higher snow totals up north the last I heard. The timing is the problem, not so much the snow.

And that's a good plan for the students who drive. Sure, it's good experience learning how to drive in the snow, but...maybe just wait until it's cleared.

I'm guessing my district will be out Wednesday and maybe Thursday as well. I understand out in our area with the country roads and possibly wind and ice, but the suburban areas shouldn't have some of those issues.

Apparently as the snow starts ending the last three hours or so, there's more than a fair chance of everything getting coated with a nice sheen of ice.

The should just close the state on Wednesday. Nobody goes anywhere.

I mean it sucks for parents who are screwed if the kids aren't old enough to leave at home alone alone, but the kids don't get "Showed up in shitty weather" trophies. Would be nice if some bosses were more flexible with it, but that's not an option in a lot of industries. I never remember "late starts" being a thing when I was a kid, but it makes sense. My daughter had a late start today and one of the other moms dropping off had to bring her kid to work from 8-10 until the school opened.

We didn't have late starts until 2001, but not for snow days, rather as a way to get out of giving kids days off for inservice days.

We almost never had snow days up north. They just opened the schools anyway and no one from the townships came.

At least in Chicago, the schools aren't closed and locked. There will be somebody there to receive kids, and they can stay if they have to. Just won't be a school day.
