I don't think there was ever a thread created for this movie, but I know somewhere it was talked about.

Finally got around to it tonight. One thing you gotta give Eli Roth credit for...the man really pours it on. This is balls to the walls. There are some scenes that my jaw literally dropped. Not because I hadn't seen this kind of audacity before...but because it was so graphic. And he just doesn't give a fuck.

For those who loathe SJW types, you will love it. He absolutely destroys the Millennial "activist" collective. In fact, the "leader" of the group that goes down to Peru to upset a construction job by the government winds up being more sadistic than the natives, who are just doing what they do naturally.

After one of the most unsettling scenes of butchery...the women are salting the dead body and small talking in their native language. Roth is not one for subtlety. The point is simple: we manufacture sadism, indigenous people are seen as sadistic because we don't understand their culture. Do we really need to get in the middle of it?

There are some genuine goofy laughs, and then there are times when Roth dares you to laugh. I did laugh a few times when I shouldn't have...but I think he likes to push that envelope.

It is incredibly gruesome and some may think it's a pointless exercise in gore...but I think it's good social commentary, even if it is pretty obvious.

I give the guy credit. He made the movie he wanted to. And it's really, really fucked up.

:D :D :D out of :D :D :D :D

* I recommend this for those with a strong constitution and ability to look past some of the amateur cheap shots. It's worth watching if you want to give it a try.

Wanted to see it. Haven't gotten around to it. Don't think I can talk the wife into seeing it, but I'm going to find a way to watch it eventually.

A lot of the reviews were meh, but if the resident CFMB movie addicianado found it worthwhile it's all the more incentive for me.

Yeah I read a few reviews. I don't know what great classics they're watching to put it up against but I thought it was worthy. Just like "Frozen" (not the disney movie), I think it got unfairly criticized a bit.

I would say...if you liked "Hostel" and you like Eli Roth...it's a solid addition to his canon.

I'm not a big Hostel fan. I am a big Roth fan tho, and I think I was like the only person to enjoy Knock, Knock (when paired with the extended ending).

I'll get around to GI.

You might be "meh" on this one then. "Hostel" is Roth's sweet spot, which is the social commentary. He likes to create characters that will force you to make the choice...do you want to see them live? I will say this...his main girl, awesome. So maybe that will be the difference for you here.

Holy shit.

I stumbled onto this movie on cable a few day back, not knowing anything about the movie whatsoever.

Came upon it at the part where the natives were herding the activists to their village, and then butchering the fat kid, etc.

I could only make it about 1-1 minute more. Had to shitcan it.

Just seemed too much like torture-porn.

I dunno. I was able to watch "Apocalypto". Maybe Mel Gibson did his shit with a bit more class!

Who knows?

And I saw Hostel 1 & 2. This seemed much more graphic then even those movies.
