Every time I watch this show it feels like it should be a lot better than it is.

That's because a generation raised on adult cartoons all too often didn't get the jokes they were laughing at and thought that being a smart ass was the same as being funny. And shows like this are too often the result.

This isn't quite the same thing, but when I was in college I took this Environmental Sciences class. The teacher was this tofu eating "I don't own a TV" lady. Anyway, one day she showed the class that classic PSA where the Indian is on the side of the highway and someone tosses garbage out of a moving car that lands at his feet thus causing him to tear up. The whole class snickered, and she went ballistic, like she was truly offended that people had that reaction. I tried to explain to her that it had been parodied by almost every popular cartoon/comedy series over the last 20 years, but she wasn't having any of it. Maybe there were some proto-MAGA bros in the class who genuinely thought it was funny, but I'd bet the vast majority of people laughed because they had been conditioned to.
