Strome doesn't appear to be McDavid/Eichel/Marner level, but we knew that on draft day. For all the worship that the Coyotes get online for being this great progressive organization, they sure did screw up on a #3 overall pick. So he's a genuine second-line center. Good.

Great name KOO KOO

Quote:
the Chicago Blackhawks announced today that they have acquired defenseman Slater Koekkoek (KOO-KOO) and a fifth-round pick in the 2019 National Hockey League Draft in exchange for defenseman Jan Rutta and a 2019 seventh-round pick. Koekkoek's contract has an AAV of $865,000 and is signed through the 2018-19 season.
Koekkoek, 24, has spent time with the Tampa Bay Lightning and Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League this season. In nine games with the Lightning, he has one goal. He recorded one assist in five games with the Crunch.
Originally selected with the 10th overall pick in the 2012 NHL Draft, Koekkoek played parts of five seasons (2014-18) with Tampa Bay, compiling five goals and nine helpers in 85 regular-season games. He picked up an assist in 10 Stanley Cup Playoff contests during the 2016 postseason. During the 2017-18 campaign, he tallied NHL career highs with four goals and eight points. Koekkoek registered 12 goals and 43 assists in 185 career regular-season games with Syracuse. He added eight points (1G, 7A) in 25 Calder Cup Playoff games.
A native of North Dundas, Ontario, Koekkoek played his junior hockey with the Peterborough Petes (2010-13) and Windsor Spitfires (2013-2014) of the Ontario Hockey League. He notched 123 points (33G, 90A) in 195 OHL games. He was named to the OHL First All-Star Team after the 2013-14 season with Windsor where he had 53 points (15G, 38A) in 62 games.
Rutta spent time with the Blackhawks and Rockford IceHogs of the AHL this season. In two seasons with Chicago, Rutta recorded eight goals and 18 assists.

Bolts fans talked up Koekkoek for years, maybe the scene of changery is what he needs (though I'd hardly call Tampa a hard place to thrive).

Hawks up 3-2 on Vegas after 2 periods. The Cat with 2 goals so far.

They blew the lead, go into OT and Vegas scores about 2 mins in for the win.

Look what a competent PP QB on the point is doing for the Hawks. I always thought a major reason for the Hawk inept PP in spite of elite talent over the years was Keith and Seabrook but I never knew how much. Gus looks great out there on the PP. He is moving around and changing lanes. Shocking that putting a sniper (Debrincat) opposite Kane will work. I doubt this PP would have gotten fixed under Q.

Why the hell is Jokiharju playing his off-side? This is a developmental year and Joker is one of the most important pieces of their rebuild. Either scratch Seabrook or put him on the left side. OR break up the top 2 pairings. This team is going nowhere anyways. Let's see what Joker and Murphy can do. Whatever line Seabrook is on is going to suck regardless.

Solid -5 for Keith tonight. Seabrook gets all the shit but Keith is just as washed up.

Kane put up four points anyway. Please don't demand a trade.

Kane is the only asset of value on the team right now. That's a scary thought, but man....Kane very well could want no part of waiting through 3 years of this shit show. Sad to think Kane could demand a trade but I don't know if I could blame him.

Kane with a five-point game that still doesn't move him up in the scoring race. But at least he's gained some separation on 7th-place scorer (checks notes) Brayden Point

At least the game was a lot of fun. The Hawks on NBC brought back playoff memories.

Yeah, it was fun to watch. My goodness, though, the Hawks defense is terrible.

Foley just said 17 players have scored 20 goals in their first dozen years. Toews, Kane. Anyone know the other 15???

Shootout win ends the Isles 5-game winning streak.

Only 7 points out of a playoff spot! :drunken: :drunken: :drunken:

If the Islanders make the playoffs, I wonder whether they'll play in Brooklyn, Uniondale, or have to pick between the two based on which one doesn't have a conflict.

Jokiharju assigned to Rockford - WTF?

Only thing I can think of is that they are clearing roster space for a trade where they get more crappy players back than they give up.

This has to be temporary and leading up to a trade. Not sure who is waiver-exempt. Zawaski said in his recent podcast that a source told him that a dman was getting trading. Are they showcasing Forsling? Lots of speculation involving the Bruins lately but that has been centered on Saad. But I sure hope that the Hawks are keeping Joker happy. Mitchell has to be watching this closely. There are reports that he is considering staying 4 years at Denver and possibly going the FA route.

Say yes Duncan....say yes. He should get something respectable in return and even if he still has something left in the tank, he won't when it comes time for the Hawks to compete again.

Do the Hawks fear cap recapture with Keith? If they keep him on the team then they can concoct some LTIR when his salary drops down to a couple mil or so in his last few years. If he retires early, the cap recapture goes back to the team that signed him. Whatever team the Hawks trade him to will not care about the Hawks getting the recapture penalty. Might be in the best in the Hawks best interest to keep him because of this.
