Just finished the Bill Murray Stories documentary. I'm tired of him. He's overexposed. Now he just mugs for the camera and phones it in. The last time I saw a role of his that was actually funny was probably What About Bob or Groundhog Day. Do you guys like him, or should he take a break for a while?

He was good in the movie with Scarlett Johansen and the film about Ed Wood. Other than that, he seems to play Bill Murray.

Speaking of Groundpig Day, though, that Punxsutawney Phil a) is getting fat and b) best be seeing his shadow tomorrow. Or not seeing it. The one that bringeth spring.

Harold Ramis was always funnier than Bill Murray. I guess Bill's ego couldn't handle that.

Bill Murray doesn't have a career post SNL without Ramis's writing. I guess we can see how "funny" Bill Murray was post collaboration with Harold Ramis. Everything he did after Groundhog Day sucked.

Yes. Thank you. Some of the Wes Anderson movies were good, but they were good despite him, not because of him.

I don't really get the fascination with him. He's had his moments. He's an actor like a million other guys. I don't understand the cult aspect. Like why do people wear t-shirts with his face on them?

Possibly. But there are hundreds of comedies that fit the bill. But little of it in the last 25 years imo. And even less from Bill Murray without the Lampoon guys spoon feeding him. Imo.

I generally don't watch comedies that came out before the mid 80's, so your thoughts intrigue me. Give me your top five pre-1985 comedies that remain funny.

1. I saw Blazing Saddles about 15-17 years ago, and didn't really care for it, but too many smart people like it. I'm going to have to give it another shot.
2. Animal House- you're right, that is a good one.
3. Dr. Strangeglove- saw it once about 20 years ago when I was really fucked up. It doesn't seem like a ha ha type of comedy, seems like more of a satire. I'm not sure if it's worth watching again.
4. Life of Brian- I actually just watched this movie on New Year's day because it was on Netflix. It had it's moments, but I was not that impressed.
5. Dolemite- never heard of it. I'll check it out.

Dolemite is an unintentionally funny blaxploitation film, and if you don't like Monty Python, swap out for MASH

Revenge of the Nerds held up ok, but it's kind of a B-team Animal House.
Airplane! still works for me, though I know it has its detractors here.

Airplane is awesome, but it's essentially the same movie as Naked Gun. I saw Naked Gun first so it will always have the pride of place in my comedy heart.

The Pink Panther Movies are still funny as shit.
