I think this is bullshit too. Sure he likely isn't involved in roster moves or coaches or whatever, but I do not believe for a second that Joe is not involved in the actual business aspect of the Cubs.

Ok Frank . Joe Ricketts is involved in the day to day business operation of the Cubs. Now what ?

Being private emails that were leaked, nothing. If he were doing this in interviews or whatever, MLB should force him to sell.

We've been over this before, the above is a ridiculous position.

If a guy is a bigot in public, it's a problem, but if a guy is a bigot in private that is OK?

That doesn't make any sense, the problem isn't the why or how of the exposure of Dad Ricketts being a bigot, the problem is that he's a bigot.
well there should certainly be plenty of examples where his horrible bigotry has manifested itself in regards to employment then . Let’s find some and after we do , can we also find places of employment where racists and bigots are allowed to earn a living after their private emails are made public ?

I think the Cubs should send a strong message and ban Joe Ricketts from Wrigley Field for a year.

Im on board with that.

Further more, he should have to call Barack Obama and apologize.

Let's have Jesse Jackson and some CPS students have a conference with him.

You're either OK supporting a bigot and a racist running your team, or you're not. There isn't a middle ground.

I’m thankful his racism and bigotry didn’t give Heyward 250 million for sure .

and hired Epstein

although his e-mails do show begrudging admiration for jews in relation to muslims

This is a fair question. However, it also is something that exists for the President and I doubt you accept that as proof of anything either.

This also puts the Cub local political activity into context.

I hope Tunney is able to make hay against them with this misstep.

I'm not familiar with TD Ameritrade HR decisions. I hope he didn't discriminate from hiring Omaha's five muslims.

If everyone were honest, they would recognize that there has been a lot of smoke around the Cubs organizationally and as a fanbase for having racial incidents over the past several decades.

If Ricketts capitulates and agrees to that beahead an infidel night that the Muslim council wants as restitution I gotta say my fandom will really be in question at that point

What exactly do we know about milquetoast Tom Ricketts? It's like the quiet person you just assume is a good guy.

Laura Ricketts seems to absolve herself just because of her sexual orientation.

RPB choosing to look at the hypothetical emails from JERRY as opposed to the real emails from the Cubs own cash cow.

Very sad.

I'm just taking the man at his word that he views all Muslims as his enemy. These are his words that he said, I'm just taking him at his word. As GD pointed out, nobody here is privy to the past HR policies of Ameritrade when it was run by Dad Ricketts. I can only assume that he didn't want to hire Muslims in his organization. I am assuming this because Dad Ricketts seems to be bigoted towards Muslims. Nobody in their right mind would hire someone they view as their "enemy" to work for them, regardless of how nonsensical and bigoted those views might be.

Look, I hate peas. I view peas as my food enemy. Do you really need a report of every meal I've eaten over the past 39 years to surmise that I've not consumed many peas based on my personal statements that I view peas as my food enemy? I'd think not.

Your non answer says everything. Jerry could burn a cross on Obama's front lawn and it would have ZERO effect on your Sox fandom.

I know it's your shtick around here to blindly shit on everything Cubs, but lets be a little more tactful here.

Nobody should have to pay for the sins of their father in a situation like this. Dad Ricketts is pretty clearly a bigot, but let's allow his children some rode here and not imply that because Dad Ricketts is a shitbag when it concerns his views on people of different backgrounds and cultures, that any or all of his kids are the same.

This is kind of a biggie as far as issues go, a person should be judged on their own views.

Ok so we wont be able to prove that his awful bigotry has held what surely are thousands of Muslims back from what would have undoubtedly been a successful day trading career. Moving on, and to repeat what RPB said, what should be done with Joe Ricketts right now?

It's not a non-answer, RPB. Its the truth.

Its like people saying they would leave town if the Cubs ever won the World Series. It just didn't happen that way.
So again, you can address hypothetical emails from the other side of town, or the real emails that have sent from the guy who put up the cash to buy the team you root for.

It's what passes for analysis among many. I'm not denying that bigotry does not exist or that those who point it out are feeble-minded, but man, discussions go beyond publicly branding people are bigots.

If you cant pledge that you would not support a team with a bigoted owner/money man/executive than you really have no place to shame anyone else.

Your hypocrisy is crystal clear here. Unless you are saying you would stop supporting the Sox in this type of situation.

If you could open up the personal communications of every employed person on Earth, what % do you think would have statements considered "offensive" by many?

Weevils triumph when woke kids don't smash bugs. I caught flack for smashing (on instinct) a roach-like bug in the classroom the other day. When I asked if I should just have placed it outside, a student suggested there was "a medium place" (I think he meant "a happy medium"). A couple of them think I am psycho. I was like, "Bro, I raise monarch caterpillars!" Second time I've caught flak for killing a bug in a class.

69%

It does matter though. I agree it's not a substitute for discourse and it doesnt confer nobility.

I know you're not saying this but some times it seems like you're saying, "yea bigots exist who cares? Lets move on."

100%. Without a doubt. We're all biased, language itself is inherently vague, and context is a bitch to resurrect.
