Unless Hahn leaked his offer( doubtful) I don't see what difference it could make.

Mully ripped Hahn for this today, saying the Sox were stupid for being so public with their pursuit. He said Hahn’s self-congratulations at “being at the table” ring hollow unless they actually sign him.

Didn't the Sox make their quest public so that other teams would be guaranteed to beat them out?

That's certainly possible

Yep, the Padres probably saw the offer and said, "hell, if that's all it takes, we can beat that."

Sox will sign him, like I first reported here months ago.

Harper goes to the Phillies.

Both guys hit 40 Home runs in their new hitter friendly home parks.

If money is the only issue, then I agree. If opt outs and length are an issue, then all bets are off. Sox will be determined, as well they should be, to not get Zack Greinke-d after year 3. This "swellopt" thing sounds fine to me. If the team wants him, they add an 8th year, if not, the player has the option to walk or fulfill the 7 year contract.

Dodgers just signed another pretty good outfielder. Pederson is gonna be bye-bye.

The Padres are meeting with Harper and Machado. Good. Someone is finally being aggressive and trying to push this fuckin thing forward.

The longer this drags out - particularly in such quiet fashion - the more likely Machado will sign with the White Sox IMO. He’ll take the deal and exercise the opt out in 2 years.

Sporting News has some article about the Yanks offering 7yrs $220M. Not sure I buy it.

True, but the guy they referenced as a source (Jim Duquette) later clarified it was a rumor, not a fact. The same story also stated that the listed offer was not the highest one out there fwiw.

At this point, I refuse to believe any report of big offers. I think, the Sox have and have had the highest offer for a while. And that Manny refuses to believe it can not go higher. For some reason, I think that he thinks the number is $300M and it is probably closer to $220-$250M.

I agree, which is why I believe he will take their offer and look to a bigger payday in 2 years.

A player option 2 years into the deal. LOL!

Good point, that would never happen...um, well except maybe...
Nightingale told Olney on the most recent edition of the “Baseball Tonight” podcast that he’s only hearing the White Sox connected with Machado. Olney compared the situation to J.D. Martinez’s free agency a year ago. Martinez rejected the Boston Red Sox’s offer of $100 million over five years early in the offseason, and he settled for a five-year, $110 million contract at the start of spring training.

Martinez can opt out after the second year of the deal, and if he follows up his 2018 with a similar campaign in 2019, you can bet he’ll do just that and sign for more money. Perhaps Machado will sign a similar deal, one that will allow him to hit the market again in his late 20's and give him another chance to get the contract he’s been looking for.

I’d be fine with that. Who knows how a lot of these guys will age and by that time we should have all our guys up and still have a lot of flexibility payroll wise if he opts out(flexibility being relative given Reinsdorf is a cheap asshole)

This sentiment could only come from a non Sox fan.

I'm starting to think it's possible the White Sox get the hustle challenged one on a short term deal while he waits for his desired landing spots to free up luxury tax room. I don't think he signs long term with the White Sox (he'd be a fool to do so) but I think they negotiate a short term deal and he's out of here in 2-3 years when the market is better for him.

Imo he was never gonna sign with the Sox, leverage only. He'll sign a Short term deal ..if he can't reach a long term with a decent organization.

Free agent Manny Machado doesn’t appear any closer to accepting a major league deal these days, but we may be starting to get a better idea of the offers that are on the table — at least when it comes to the White Sox. Héctor Gómez of Z Digital reports that the club proposed an eight-year, $250 million offer to Machado, a full $75 million above the previously (and erroneously) reported seven-year, $175 million deal that was said to be in play. Naturally, neither Machado’s agent nor the White Sox have confirmed the report.

He is crazy if he doesn't take that offer, if it's accurate.

Horseshit..he's the only dipshit reporting this and Hahn or Kenny would have leaked this after the reported low-ball 175-7 surfaced..only a fucking meathead would believe this crap.

Of course it's not accurate. Agent is desperate for a 200 mil offer.

I also doubt there a 2 yr player opt out. When the offer was originally reported, talk was of a swellopt. After 2 years, TEAM has first option to extend to an 8th year. If team declines, player may opt out.

I think Manny should consider a 1 year contract. Get himself 30 mildough and repeat the process next year.

I doubt that will happen with Machado but I could see Boras/Harper doing it. In fact, I could see Harper waiting until June/July and then signing with a big market contender for the remainder of the season for big money (maybe even the Cubs) and then doing this all over again next year.

Yeah, he is not by his own choice going to play in an empty stadium for the next 7-10 years. One year or even two is different.

That would take some gigantic balls. Boras is crazy enough to try it, but I don't think Harper would go for that....man....that would be really bad look.

That may not appear risky on its face but in actuality it is an incredibly risky and unnecessary move by the player. He would essentially be gambling $250 million to make maybe $50 million more...maybe.
