I am happy to see the Cubs will have their own network in just a year. Getting the extra revenue it will provide should really help the team to afford to keep star players like Kris Bryant and acquire players that are available to them. The fact that the network involved is known to be more conservative......great! There are already plenty of outlets that cater to the bleeding heart liberals. This might make watching their station even more enjoyable. What a great time to be a Cubs fan!

You're comparing the Dodgers' fanbase to the White Sox'?

RPB has lost his mind. He is confusing LA football with Dodgers baseball fans. Ogie and my thoughts earlier is this will be a snafu online with sportsvision. Not a direct forensic comparison. Relax pal.

Nope.

You can't subscribe to the channel unless you are a Time Warner subscriber.

The other cable providers refuse to pay the carriage fee. Time Warner refuses to have the channel as a sports-tier channel.

Bryan as usual doesn't know what he is talking about and using his feelings again.

Coming from someone who is always very informed like you, that hurts.

You are extremely sensitive. One post half mocking you and you come back with this non sense.

I guess you want open season. Ok, then. Just remember you drew first blood, mike.

Percentage of seats sold

Cubs: 94.3 (3rd in MLB)
Dodgers: 84 (8th in MLB)

You guys are right, Dodger fans dont have the rep of fair weather fans who show up late and leave early. LA is a totally awesome sports town.

Moving the goalposts so brazenly from the corner you've painted yourself into is funny to watch you try and do.

He chose to make a totals comparison and I'm sure that he's now scouring the web to find the totals of the drunks on the rooftops and ball chasing numbskulls by the firehouse to try and bolster his wrong claim.

There is no moving of any goal posts. My statement was that the Dodgers fanbase is not large and fanatical. And they are not.

Your hatred of the Cubs clouds everything you post about MLB. I shouldn't have even responded. My mistake.

That is because the Dodgers ballpark holds over 10,000 more fans than Wrigley Field does.

Sounds like a pretty good fanbase to be able to support such a large stadium.

Seats sold is different than actual people attending the game. At least that is what Cubs fans repeatedly tell me when there are empty seats all over the Southside for cold April afternoon games.

But in the five years since the Cubs planted the seed of the regional sports network, the pay-TV landscape has changed dramatically, with cord cutting and skinny bundles squeezing the carriage fees cable companies are willing to pay for even sports, long the most valuable programming commodity.

That is where the Cubs’ partnership with Maryland-based Sinclair, the country’s largest TV station owner, comes into play. Sinclair owns 191 TV stations and the Tennis Channel, which gives it leverage in negotiations with cable and satellite providers such as Comcast, DirecTV and Dish.

Since acquiring the Tennis Channel in 2016 for $350 million, for example, Sinclair has doubled its reach to 60 million homes.

“We have strong relationships with cable companies and satellite operators,” said Sinclair’s president and CEO, Chris Ripley. “That is a key function we will fill here.”

Ripley expressed confidence in getting not only cable and satellite providers, but streaming services to sign up for the new Cubs network. Negotiations are underway, he said.

Seems like the bolded part is significant.

The Tennis Channel has a subscriber fee of something like 15 cents a month. That ain't going to cut it if you're thinking big money for the Cubs.

So its actually LESS than 84%?

That's even worse!

I'm really confused on what metric we are using. I guess the White Sox should move down to a stadium of 5,000 and then be at 100% attendance! Great fan base.

Your post specifically referred to supporting a large stadium. That invited the percentage stat.

Dodger fans and LA fans in general have a reputation as late arriving, early leaving terrible sports fans. I didnt make this up. It's been around for years. If you guys disagree, that's cool, but I didnt invent it.

Could, might be.

It definitely is less than 94% attendance for the Cubs.

Anyway, lets just make it simple.

If the Cubs games are not available, I will come here and take my lumps for being WAY wrong.

If they are available, I will expect those of you arguing with me to do the same.

whatever. I prefer the Sox at 24% and an owner that's not a Nazi.

Cool.

I sometimes get jealous of the Sox fans and how easy it is for them to go to games.

The Dodgers?!? Your Cubbie blue arrogance is on full display.

Im talking about legitimate fans who watch games regularly. Not people who go to 1-2 games and own a Dodgers hat. Those people dont care if they can watch the games.

RPB melting down and starting to sound strangely similar to a Cardinal fan

Over the line.

Do you think Dodgers fans are one of the more fanatical fanbases?

I wouldn't know. That is anecdotal at best.

You use the Dodger fans arriving late and leaving early as a barometer. Wrigley loses a "significant amount" of its crowd after they get to sing Take Me Out To The Ballgame.
