Also, Jerry Reinsdorf is also a partner of Sinclair, so no more White Sox fandom for Hatchetman

Nah, I just know how things get twisted here. My unedited posts remain.

And there will be no spinning allowed by the people on the other side who said 0% chance. I dont want to hear "yea, it's available but _____"

The argument is that a large portion of chicago will not be able to watch the games and the fanbase will suffer a la Sportsvision and Hawks blacking out home games.

Stadium already can be found several places online, including watchstadium.com as well as Facebook, Twitter and Twitch. Depending on where one lives, it is also available on over-the-air TV and/or cable. In some locales, it’s seen at gas pumps, bus stops and in elevators.

Yeah, that's the way this goes. The cable company says sure, we'd be happy to carry The All Kansas City Royals All The Time Channel, we'll just place it on our super-mega-expanded sports tier, right next to The Weird Afghan Goat Head Polo Network, Cricket TV, and Fox Sports Northern Maine. Then the team freaks out and demands to be put on the basic tier.

Why do you guys assume that these guys are idiots and havent looked into this and parsed the numbers to the nth degree to where they think they will make money on this ? That they're just gonna throw a billion dollars at the Cubs and hope and pray that they can make it back?

Shrug. I just think that a successful media company doesn’t just blunder into a deal that they think will lose money but I guess they could just be fans of the team and wanted to give them hundreds of millions of dollars. We’ll see.

He's just taking the opposite side of people saying this is doomed to fail like Sportsvision.

I think it's fair to assume that the Cubs and Sinclair are as informed as us message board posters on the history involved.

Would you say the same thing about The Score and the Cubs radio deal?

No. I’ve seen who they’ve hired as their on air talent .

Nice read on Dodgers tv history. Also talks about their latest pay tv venture in depth.

Interesting. I knew the Dodgers were only an over-the-air team in the early '90s before Fox Sports West 2, but I didn't realize they aired so few games. Good thing their radio side was so good.

I was going to say to your earlier post, did you notice the sports fee going up incrementally throughout the years? Maybe you do because you seem to pay attention to the breakdown. I think most people dont.

Are you coming up from zero percent chance Comcast carries it?

Before this gets twisted, my argument has been the games will be available to most Cub fans on cable. I have not said it's good for Cub fans or antying close to that, only that it wont go down like sportsvision or Hawks blackouts.

I didn't notice as I was splitting cable between 2 other roommates and didn't handle the bill. But once my wife and I moved into our own place and my sports consumption has decreased I've noticed the full impact.

It's my fault I didn't read the fine print when I signed up for my Comcast deal that their advertised rates didn't include all the bullshit fees and taxes (especially painful for Chicago residents).

Maybe the current $8.25/month I'm paying for existing regional networks decreases once the Cubs leave but in total I bet the fee jumps if you combine NBC+Ricketts Pravda TV

The audience will shrink, sure maybe lose 20-30% of audience but the Cubs will get 100% of the 70-80% .

Cubs will be on every system nationwide. Simple. People will demand it and it will happen.

That is because the Dodgers ballpark holds over 10,000 more fans than Wrigley Field does.

Sounds like a pretty good fanbase to be able to support such a large stadium.

I will not argue that the Dodgers don't have a good fan base. But if the Cubs had a stadium as large, they would probably sell even more tickets. And the fans would be there before the 3rd inning and stay for the whole game.

You can carry a regional sports channel anywhere but MLB/NBA/NHL games are subject to blackout restrictions. The YES Network is on a lot of cable systems in Florida, but you would need Extra Innings to watch Yankees games. You'd only be able to watch Michael Kay's radio show or David Cone's perfect game or whatever else they show.

I truly don’t know why anyone (under 40) worries about any of this shit anymore. Reddit is there for everyone. Ignore the cesspools and just go to the streaming subreddits.

First I see Old Man Ricketts emails then Todd Ricketts heads Trump 2020 reelection fundraising and now Sinclair. Fuck them! This is the final nail in the coffin. I've always been a casual, fair weather Cubs fan but have gone to a game or so every year since my teenage years and usually have them on in the background during the summer. Doubt I even follow baseball that much anymore.
