because the truth of the situation, despite all the reports over the past five years, is that they simply do not have the money today

They bought the team at what was reported to be an uncomfortable (by MLB overseers) cash to loan ratio. Since then they invested a reported $500 million (in actuality it was probably more) into infrastructure improvements. They have purchased property around the park that were reportedly money losers for the owners. They also decided to get into the hotel business.

The Cubs are sitting on a very big nut to cover each month.

Yeah the cable money like the Dodgers is not going to be there (predicted by me) and will affect how they pay off the stadium renovations. All leading to smaller (bit not minuscule) payroll than fans expected. Many revenue streams are slowing to trickles.

Doubt I even follow baseball that much anymore.

Later gator.

Cubs fans abandoning the team quickly now. Get off the sinking ship. Be on the right side of history.

They still have an historically high payroll. The appraised value of the team has doubled. They just don't have the waves and waves of dollars business majors like Levine, Witenmeyer and Phil Rogers would have had you believe.

I've heard many cry about this on FB....they're not going anywhere. Cubs will be fine. The only thing they really need to cry about is the contracts of Darvish and Chatwood.

I wonder why no one is putting their name to an article about not giving a shit who broadcasts the Cubs games. I mean , odds are that there has to be some columnist in this town that feels like that right ?

No, Im saying they are both FAR INFERIOR fanbases.

Im sorry, do we belive the Dodgers fanbase is large and fanatical? Because it's not.
The Cubs fanbase is a relatively new phenomenon (1984+) whereas the Dodgers have drawn ever since they moved to LA (1958).

Parkins was just like "this is great for the Cubs, because it means more revenue, and this is great for the media, because it means more jobs for us, and I think, eventually, it'll be good for fans, too." What a buttmunch. Like people whose cable bills are going up $8 care that another buffed-clean Syracuse dork will have another place to apply to.

If people can’t afford the cable bill going up by six dollars they should learn to code

Nobody in LA cares about the Dodgers.

By 2025 they’ll only need to work an hour to make up the cost in Illinois.

Makes sense, but wouldn't 10 years of Harper be extremely profitable for the Cubs? Especially if they win another world series or 3?

Sinclair reportedly buying Fox Regional Sports networks from Disney. Everything falling into place now.

I wonder how they'll brand the stations, since Sinclair itself is such a toxic brand. They could go with "Stadium [region]," or they could give each channel its own name, like the Cubs' channel will be called Marquee. Maybe "Arch Sports" for St. Louis, "Motor City Sports" for Detroit, and so on. Hopefully they won't all be compelled to deliver pro-Trump editorials.

As I said in another thread, this will fail due to the lack of a winter partner. Comcast will not add this channel to their packages, especially when it competes with NBCSCH

This is the same mistake Eddie Einhorn made in the early 80s and that is the moment Chicago became a Cubs town. It will be nice when the next generation of kids only have Sox games available to watch. GO SOX!

SportsVision 2.0 will be as successful as the 1st version was.

This post will not age well.

Told you
