It's like people don't believe them when they say it. They should add "and we really mean it".

I firmly believed the Cubs weren’t going to be able to spend their way out of these bad contracts.

Count me on the right side of history.

They have tidal waves of revenue.

It's just being re-allocated for campaign donations to sandbag Tom Tunney, $200K kitchen re-models and $50K antique books.

That and, for a nominal $5000 donation, you will probably be able to put your family name and the Cubs logo on a brick for a certain wall being built along our southern border!

Combined with all of the Wrigley renovations and resources put into the Arizona and Caribbean facilities...no organization has spent more overall, nor more on baseball operations. It sucks they could not find $20MM more this offseason, but the club is not cheap. Annual roster spending has gone up each year and will continue to go up during this window.

Unless fake Cubs fans like Kirkwood try to dodge their RSN fees by going with Reddit streams.

I heard Bernstein say Heyward was a 2 war player last year, 2 war equals 16 million

No Dan, Dwar is horseshit, you can't say one war is worth 8 million. The Cubs couldn't trade Heyward if they ate half his money.. no gm thinks Heyward is worth even 20 million per. In reality Jhey should be making about 3.5 million per year.

His dWAR was 0.1 last year.

He was a 1.6 overall, good for 75th in the NL

The common belief is that 1 WAR is equal to about 8 million in free agency. So Heyward would be like a 12 million dollar player.

Of course, you could get that WAR much cheaper by a guy on a rookie contract.

Heyward's salary over the next five years: $20m, 21, 21, 22, 22. If he gets 550 PAs this season, he can opt out. Doubt he will, but if he can build on last season, he'll be close enough to being worth it that it won't make sense to peddle him.

Build on last season? He didn't do much. His numbers improvement is microscopic. Little better ops, batting average. You do realize we're talking about one of the worst free agent contracts in mlb history?

I don't think any gm in Mlb would sign Heyward to a 5 year 50 million dollar deal right now.

You're full of bad takes...this is likely one of them.

I think there would be quite a few takers for a 29yo Gold Glove right fielder with a ton of upside @ $10mil per.

When Theo talks about Heyward improving he always takes about war, to save face. He's sharp. He knows his ba, ops, slg, rbi won't get much better. Heyward will be even more closely scrutinized when Eloy starts tearing it up for the Sox. Heyward upside? I never see him 20 hr, 290 ba, 95 rbi, 900 ops. He could possibly give MLB's version of the Gettysburg Address #2.

And he didn't win the NL RF gold glove in 2018!

That's why he was benched mist of the playoffs, yeah a speech in a rain delay lmao.. I'm sure 5 guys stood up and talked in those 70 minutes..since Jhey wasn't providing dick the teammates all credited him with something (manufactured) to get fans off his useless ass. The guy sucks.

Should have signed Harp, pay him 10-12 million the next 2 years and backload that bitch. I've always hated Ricketts, now I really hate that slimeball

The worst. And I don’t care one bit that bad contract had the owner tie Theos hands.

$10M per year on a 5 year deal?

The upside argument is pretty tough to argue with him at this point.

He could get a 1-2 year deal, for $14-$16.
