Right. and the Cubs didn't have one and had no way to get one as good as Quintana for the relatively small money he costs. You fantasize about prospects too much. Eloy Jimenez has exactly ZERO big league hits.

What a shame the White Sox wasted a whole year on phantom service time that will no longer exist after 2021. To me, it's almost as bad as the Shield trade.

Yeah, of course that will be addressed in the next CBA, but another issue that no one seems to talk about is that without heavy performance enhancers there's no guarantee that a guy's 27 year old season is going to be better than his 19 year old season would have been. Maybe you could actually contend if you weren't storing your best players in the minors.

Some people seem to think MLB made some rules and now PEDs are gone. They are not. Guys with money get the "untraceables" and by the time testing catches up, MLB WON'T go back and retest 3 or 4 year old samples.

Collusion. There it is. In black and white.

Mlb needs to take blood and hair samples, store em and test later. Mlb is always gonna be 18 months behind the scientists mixing this shit up in a lab.

But it IS a nice bargaining chip for the new CBA. I think it is was a bargaining chip in the current one.

Yeah, I'm not naive enough to think PEDs are gone, but I think it's obvious that the penalties have decreased usage. There will always be guys willing to take a risk and the drugs are always ahead of the testing.

I think one of the biggest ways to decrease the usage is to make the teams play short if a guy gets docked for PEDs. Don't just suspend them, but make them run with a 24 man roster for the suspension. Things will end up policing themselves as no team is going to want to play short, and guys that do will be less and less likely to be signed then.

I'm going to guess the consolation prize there is a higher draft pick even if they lose the service time part of it.

Eloy Jimenez was ready to hit in the major leagues last season, if not the year before. He is not a very good outfielder. He takes poor routes on fly balls (think Jorge Soler) and does not have great speed. However, he does have a good arm. He also has had some issues with injuries. But if he stays healthy, he will put up good numbers with the bat. He can hit and hit for real good power as well. The other guy in the Quintana deal Dylan Cease could be exceptional as well.

See, this is the sort of hot take callers need to take into the air.

That’s not a very tall order.

He has neither hit .300 nor won a gold glove in any year.
