It asked a tremendous sacrifice of us as fans. They repaid us with magic beans.

Fuck every last one of these dickheads. Every last one of them.

This was the ONE time none of the big boys were on the biggest FA. You stated years ago that you were gearing up for this moment. The opportunity will never present itself again...and you blew it.

Don't ask for my allegiance. Don't ask for my patience. You don't have it anymore.

Only time I'll be going is free tickets or five dollar cheap seats because I know that place is going to be a morgue for the next few years.

JR, you have absolutely ripped the heart out of this fanbase since the day you purchased. You have been a scourge on us. Now, as you are dying, you add one last insult.

On the bright side, it frees up money to bring back James Shields.

I'd rather be criticized of overpaying a FA than fall short of being a competitive team and not winning.

Dolphin is correct....this was a once a lifetime FA event where NONE of the powerhouses were in the market. That simply does not ever happen.

This is an awful day. They could have afforded this just fine.

Manny Machado isn't worth 30 million dollars a year.

My God some of you fans ride the short bus sometimes.

Yeah, it's a funny thing. Here's where I am on it. I'm angry that they didn't sign him. But I think I would have been angry if they had signed him. I know that sounds weird. But it's sort of like eating White Castle or doing coke. You want it bad before you do it, but there's a lot of regret after you do.

Well, that's not true. They ain't the Cubs and a couple bad signings prevented the Cubs from getting Harper.

You are going to be the fool believing they will go in on Arrenado next year, then some other person the year after.

A player of his ability, at his age has a high value. That value should have been even higher to the Sox.

He would have been a symbol of the rebuild. Now he is a symbol of management's failure.

As a neutral observer, a contract like this has NEVER been a good deal for the team in the history of baseball. Literally never. There isn't one example right now where you say "if it works out like that one, I will be happy".

Now, add in the fact the White Sox would have had to beat that offer and make it even more unlikely to succeed.

Their payroll with Machado would have still been bottom third in the league.

Oddly enough it's a good way to look at it. Sign Gonzalez and Kimbrell. Old school White Sox fans don't want home runs anyway. Pitching and defense dammit.

You are arguing the wrong point. They had already made the threshold decision to offer that type of contract. You should have been decrying THAT decision.

Hell, Arrenado is talking extension with the Rockies.

This way of thinking makes no sense. So the Sox should not over pay for superstars Harper and Machado because it would hurt their chance at getting the next superstar FA like Harper and Machado.... :?

It was reasonable to buy into it. It was available to them.

Normally it wasn't going to happen because the Yankees, Dodgers, etc. are all in on a guy. Not here. The Sox lost because they chose to lose this one...and you applaud them for it.

Some fan base here.

I didn't applaud them for anything.

As I said many times, they made an offer (thought to be 8 years for between 225 and 250 million) and that wasnt enough. At that point if the guy doesn't want to come here then fuck him.

The team very publicly recruited him, play in a top 3 market, and had the lowest payroll in baseball. It’s an absolute failure by management to not land him and there’s no walking around that. Don’t get mad at gd for simply correctly assessing that.

CONTRACT:8 yr(s) / $184,000,000 - Heyward
CONTRACT:6 yr(s) / $155,000,000 - Lester
Gives you a WS win plus an NLCS appearance.
The player with the 8 yr / 184M contract has yet to perform to that contract.

WINNING makes these bloated contracts pretty easy to live with.

I'd be perfectly fine living with an overpaid Machado. We get to go back to overpaying guys like Alex Rios, Todd Frazier, James, Shields, and Adam LaRoche.
