As a neutral observer, a contract like this has NEVER been a good deal for the team in the history of baseball. Literally never. There isn't one example right now where you say "if it works out like that one, I will be happy".

Now, add in the fact the White Sox would have had to beat that offer and make it even more unlikely to succeed.

This way of thinking makes no sense. So the Sox should not over pay for superstars Harper and Machado because it would hurt their chance at getting the next superstar FA like Harper and Machado....

It was reasonable to buy into it. It was available to them.

Normally it wasn't going to happen because the Yankees, Dodgers, etc. are all in on a guy. Not here. The Sox lost because they chose to lose this one...and you applaud them for it.

As I said many times, they made an offer (thought to be 8 years for between 225 and 250 million) and that wasnt enough. At that point if the guy doesn't want to come here then fuck him.
