On Mulli and Haugh just now: By Machado going with the Padres offer, he wasn't betting on himself.

Who you crappin' Bruce?!

More guaranteed money and an opt out after five to go get more money IS betting on himself. WTF?!

ya, it's convenient how the opt-out is being ignored. that's the definition of betting on YOURSELF

Yeah heard that. A line from Sox management to his mouth. And I am not butt hurt he didn't sign.

why would you ever bet when someone else will guarantee.

I'll give Bruce credit though. He isn't biased when carrying water for the management class. Cubs, Sox, Brewers...Bruce licks them all.

Not including an opt out essentially makes the offer a "non-offer". What a waste of time.

Yes, I think the opt-out, which the Sox refused to give, was a big part of his decision. And Mully was right to question Levine on why a player would choose to include team-controlled incentives. Levine tried to counter with some pablum about the Sox wanting to know he would "go to the post" every day, when it's the opposite--assuming he would be in decline like every other player by year 9, the team would almost certainly limit his ability to get to 550 PA to avoid triggering the $35m.

Just for reference, Jose Abreu had two DL stints last year and still had 553 PAs over 128 games. That amount of PA's in a league where he can DH at least some of the time is not a crazy high amount.

Kyle Schwarber, who was cherry picked and put into only the very best lineup situations for his own benefit, had 510 PAs last season.

So what, $50mil more money guaranteed isn't chump change.

I'm curious what the first 5 years of each deal looked like. Total AAV doesn't really matter when there's an opt out.

Yes. And he has sounded like this all off season. " How much money is enough?" was another Bruce quote.

This is overstating it quite a bit. He started 75% of games.

Did he call JR "Mr. Reinsdorf"? I love when Bruce openly genuflects for management.

They must have some sort of contract because if him and Julie were at will or employed based on their performance, they would have been GONE long ago.

One time I was required to do some research on internal files at a radio station and they inadvertently included Les' contract among the documents.
