they'll offer him a 8 year/250M deal... with year 9 being 45 and year 10 being 50M... but years 9 and 10 dont vest unless harper has 890 plate appearances at least 2 times in odd numbered years prior to year 6 of the contract starting..... so creative... good job rick on being so creative

I agree , no fucking way would I give any player 10 year guaranteed deals but there’s also no way any agent would encourage their player to sign for 3/150. If that player got hurt and couldn’t play again that agent would never get another client .

Security? Its one hundred and fifty million guaranteed dollars. That is second and third generational wealth without even taking into account endorsements and the money he has already made. Even if Harper is a total bust, he would still get another contract somewhere after those three years.

To me, Harper seems like the guy who is more serious about winning and his personal performance so he would be more likely to take a deal like that. Machado was all about the benjamins.

Hell, you could make it seven sweeter if you wanted to and say $75 million salary for 2019, and $37.5 million salary for 2020 & 2021. Throw a $40 million dollar player only option for 2022, no vesting required. Give him until Feb 1 to exercise the option that way he can test the free ajent waters and if there is nothing out there, he can bank even more cash and still get another bite at free agency.

Totally agree. Big name guy with some pretty uneven years to say the least. He's not coming into a team and being the piece that brings a championship. He's not that player, never has been. Machado was the guy, he's gone. Don't go throw yourself onto the funeral pyre with Harper.

Bernsie went on that the Sox better give up the no opt outs stance. I have to disagree there. If you want the 300M guarantee then I don't think you should get the 3-5 year player opt out. That is too much advantage to player and they should give a little for that.
