More Cubs fans posting about the Sox. Very sad.

Yeah, it's confusing. I don't see how the highest offer could be considered a lowball. It seems like many think CFMB sets the market price.

It was a low-ball offer

Such a low ball offer that it literally took until Spring Training had already started for another team to offer the LARGEST EVER CONTRACT IN AMERICAN PRO SPORTS for the Sox to be outbid.

smh.

A 1-yr, $50 million offer would be lowball, despite having the highest annual value.

Everybody knew from the start he was getting a 10-300.. Harper turned one down from Washington. It's so rare for 26 year old stars to be FA that somebody would give them that.

Yes, and Harpers will be bigger tomorrow, and Arrendo's next year. This is like when the entire sports world was having a heart attack for that brief ten minutes Stat Paddford was the highest paid QB.

I don't think that is quite accurate, but you are missing the bigger point.......Machado was given a huge offer by the Sox, they signed his brother in-law and friend already, yet he waits and waits for another offer, because the thought of playing for the Sox was still unappealing.

How is it confusing. Guy goes to auction to buy a car. The reserve is 75,000 and guy bids 15,000. It's a low ball offer and guy knows seller will not sell it for 15,000.

Is it less confusing to you now?

Rick and JORR would throw an agent out their home if they were offered 110k to purchase their house after 9 days on the market. Low ball is low ball

Thank You. They like to play stupid and troll with the "highest offer" bullshit line. But they know the White Sox never submitted a legit offer to Machado.

It was the largest free agent contract.

I've offered and paid less than the list price each time.

I also accepted a price below the list price when selling.

Very few teams are even offering half of this. The White Sox are negotiating against literally one other team- at most- but in your opinion they should offer nearly $40million per season because some dopey Cubs fans on the internet say so.

It's not like Mike Trout has become a free agent here. This guy is about as unpredictable as it comes. 29 teams will be dodging a bullet this offseason.

It's not all about production for the Sox. If Machado/Harper signs, they would opt out after 3yrs and sign the 350M+ contract they are looking for now. Sox are at least 3yrs away from being a contender. If they stay past the opt out year, then they most likely sucked and would not get the 350M they want and will be on the J.Heyward extortion plan.

Harper will headline Sport Center and sport talk stations regardless of his fWAR. It's all about marketing and selling seats in the stadium. Harper vs Bryant, cross town rivals. Dog day at The Rate would even be a story. "Harper takes dog Wrigley to The Rate and it pisses on Sox logo."

Only headlines you get with Machado will be negative unless he goes on a Sammy like hitting spree. "Machado hits 3hrs and complains that not enough fans are showing up at the ballpark." Machado buys pitbull and names him Yankee."

This really doesn't make any sense.

"I called [assistant GM] Josh Stein at about 5 in the morning and said, 'Let's just sign Machado. Let's go do this.' It was probably more of a pipe dream at that point in time, but as we went through the winter, and he was still there in January, I started looking at our ability to do something from a payroll standpoint."
