I think most of us here are in our 30s or 40s. And parents beating their kids was accepted back in our day. Obviously if you're in your 50s or 60s, not only were they accepted, they were encouraged by Doctors.

I didn't get it too bad or too often. And when I did it was just the belt or his back hand to my ass. Sometimes he would strike my arms and back.

But his best one was when he was really drunk. And me and my sister did something wrong. I forget exactly what. I think we were just fighting with each other and he was annoyed and pissed.

He grabbed both of us by are shoulders and bashed our heads together. Pretty hard. It hurt. And I was in a daze. We probably both had concussions. But in those days you just walked it off. Even kids. We survived. Me and my sister laugh about it now and say, "Dad would be in jail for 30 years if he did that today." She was 11. I was 8.

What about you guys?

Having grown up with older brothers 10+ years my senior and separated from them by a canyon of double-x they gave me enough gruff/shit/beatings that they relegated my dad to like a corner-man in my daily battles with them.

The one where he explained how rough the worst his dad gave him. Which was sufficient. We didn't have a need to revisit that again. He had gotten me well enough when the grades weren't up to par. Staying inside to do homework during weekdays for the next quarter twice helped as well.

My own sons never got spanked as a result. Words mattered. Plus they respected the reality of old man strength.

Dad never laid a hand in me. Heck, he wouldn’t even yell as he didn’t want to repeat the sins of his father. Anger=silence.. but those eyes would cut a fucking hole through your soul.

I'm sure I got a few as a toddler, bu the only time I earned a spanking, Mom waited for Dad, and he just sat and talked. His disappointment was worse than the whoopin' I never got.

I was thinking that.

Dad caught me sticking my tongue out at my mom. Came over and hit me in the mouth with the back of his hand. I never did that again and he never put a hand on me again.

I don't and wouldn't touch my kids.

My father never hit me. He threatened a few times, but he never followed through. My mom was the discipline parent in my family. She would smack the taste out of your mouth if you needed it. Probably the worst was when I was like 9 or 10. We were on vacation at a lake. The cabin we were staying in was right next to a hill and on top of that hill was a really busy road. My mom told me to not go on top of that hill. While she was busy doing the dishes one evening after supper I decided to go explore the top of that hill. She came out of the cabin and saw me on top of the hill. She told me to come down and for some reason I doubled down on stupidity and told her no I wasn't coming down. She ran up that hill faster than I could have imagined and grabbed a switch off a tree and whipped my ass back down that hill and into the cabin.

Jesus Christ. Why don't you just ask, "How much fun was Vietnam? Who giggled more at Shiloh--the Blue or the Grey? Or, Let's rap about the rape scene in The Kite Runner!"

I remember when I was really young my dad beat me so bad... I hadn't even gotten to the Peppermint Forest and he was already at the Candy Castle.

My father came home one night and tripped over one of my toys. He took off his belt, and The Executive was born

It's sad that kids of the last 2 decades will never have these stories.

I got a "time out" aren't good stories.

Pretty sure my dad had it very rough growing up. His mom died when he was a young boy and my grandfather was a pretty rough character from what I've heard. He died when I was a little guy. Anyway I got plenty of spankings and the occasional wooden spoon or belt and sometimes slapped across the face. When I was about 15 my dad and I got into it in my room over something and I decided to stand my ground. I was essentially his size and about the same strength. Turned into a wrestling match and my mom came in screaming and crying. He never touched me again after we got untangled. I am not even sure what the punishment was. We were moving again for the 9th time so it may have kinda gotten forgotten about after a short period of time.

My dad slapped me once.

I had pointed a rifle at him.

It was an old rifle from WW2 My grandpa kept in the basement that I played with.

My dad's point was dont ever point a gun at someone. Fair enough but why was it left out for 8 year old me to play with then?

Wow. I was expecting more stories.

I guess a lot of you never got hit.

By the way, I'm not bitching about it. It was fine. Except for that one time with the head bashing. That wasn't right. At the time I didn't think it was wrong. When you're a kid you just think that's what you get when you fuck up. And I think I'm better off that he did hit me every now and then. Kept my ass in line cuz I feared him.

He almost killed me 2 times.
First when I was about 6. I grabbed a piece of pizza he wanted so he grabbed me by the head and threw me across the room.
Next I was around 10,after a baseball game,me and my little brother were taking a bath,I hit him giving him a bloody nose. He came in saw what I did and slammed my face off the bottom of the tub .It chipped my front tooth

Funny moment in my life. Related to this topic.

I was in Florida a couple of months ago. We had a rental. I was driving. My sister was in the passenger seat. My old man in the back. He's bitching about shit. Commenting on my driving. Bothering me in a kind of stressful time. I won't explain why. Doesn't matter for this story.

I was so fucking annoyed. And I turned with my back hand ready to hit him at a stop light. To shut him the hell up. Just like he did with me when I was a kid and we went on vacations. I realized the irony right away after I did it. Then I said to him, "I'll pull over and beat the shit out of you if you don't shut up".

Which is what he would say to me as a kid on long rides when I was an annoying bitch.

He shut up. My sister looked at me with a smile cuz she obviously remembered that was his line to us when we were kids.

It was a fun moment.

was feeding my brother aspirin. he ate 1 maybe 2. i would not relent and lied through my teeth. Then he said he was gonna spank both of us more times than if one of us confessed. So my brother confessed (shew i was off the hook) and then before he got his whoopins he told my dad that he's only doing it to not get more whoopins. dad basically told me that and i said it was me and he gave me the most memorable whoopin i ever got.

If a man at highway speed decides he hates his life
How would a tractor trailer sound at impact
Could you describe the precise shriek
Cut short by popping
What is the time his blackened innards arrive
In a pine box to his parents
Can you explain your answer

Will I lie when tortured
Crack and cry for mother
Curse you father
Must I suffer to deserve your name

This is the part for splitting apart or healing
This is the punch to shatter the heart
The beating of your life
You'll never get to be here twice
This is the pain you cannot contain the bleeding
This is the answer key
Will I be someone that I trusted
Will I be someone that I can trust completely

If I have one dream that's taken away
How many dreams am I left with
And if I want to kill all my friends
When I'm a kilometer away
How many guns will it take
And if I'm 6 feet tall why do I still feel so small
Here beneath the posters on my wall
I swear to God it wasn't supposed to turn out this way

Will I lie when tortured
Crack and cry for mother
Curse you father
Must I suffer to deserve your name

This is the part for splitting apart or healing
This is the punch to shatter the heart
The beating of your life
You'll never get to be here twice
This is the pain you cannot contain the bleeding
This is the answer key
Will I become one of a billion
Will I become a billionth of what I should be
Oh where's my answer key

I don't wanna decide
I don't wanna decide
WE ARE THE SUM TOTAL OF OUR CHOICES
I don't wanna evolve
Can't I just dissolve in apathetic atrophy

This is the part for splitting apart or healing
This is the punch to shatter the heart
The beating of your life
You'll never get to be here twice
This is the pain you cannot contain the bleeding
This is the answer key
Will I become one of a billion
Will I become a billionth of what I should be

This is the part for splitting apart or healing
This is the punch to shatter the heart
The beating of your life
You'll never get to be here twice
This is the pain you cannot contain the bleeding
This is the answer key
Will I become one of a billion
Will I become a billionth of me
