What?

I was in a hurry sorry. Arendo got a 8 year 255M deal with an opt out after 3. I just thought it was a lot like the Sox Machado offer.

but Arenado is less valuable than Machado so the Sox offer, had he been a free agent, would have been less.

That is, of course, presupposing the Sox found him worthy of the second player opt out clause ever granted in the history of their organization. Otherwise, the Sox would not have issued a valid offer from yet another high end player's perspective

Think it really just goes to show that free agents want to avoid the White Sox or the White Sox offer of 8/250 is being misreported.

I like Arrenado but outside of Coors his numbers drop significantly. Not sure if he could have gotten a better deal after the season at 28.

OPS+ has him exactly the same as Machado for their careers (121) AND their last 4 seasons (129).

Offensively, they are identical when the numbers are weighted, and Arenado has the better defense (and probably more hustle).

Put Manny in Coors and you'd see a big bump

Hearing Kasper on this morning with M&H discussing Harper not being signed frustrates me. He is surely not the only one stating this but why is it bad for baseball that Harper is not signed yet? We know what he is worth. We know the market and we know the rebuild era.

The thing is the only reason he is not signed is because he and Boras did not want to yet. I don't get the underlying notion year after year that all teams should just lay down and max out for all players? Why is that "good for baseball"?

It isn't good for baseball. The Pujols-style contracts of the past are gone. Only reason to offer a 10-year contract is if the player is 27-28 or younger.

and has more consistency than Harper has shown.
I like Harper, but not for $300 Million / 10 years.

Agreed

I also agree Machado is more valuable. Time is a truthteller.

Harper ends up in LA, 1 year with an option.

On DLS this morning, they were arguing that today should be the day that the Phillies walk away.. Harper doesn't seem to want to play there, so fuck him, Boras and the horses they rode in on.

I think it was Mully who suggested the White Sox should offer $250m for 5 years. You'd have better box office from the start (maybe) and then he would be around in years 3-5 when the Sox are supposedly ready to contend. After that Jerry would be dead anyway. For Harper, he'd get to boast of having the highest salary by far, and in 5 years would get to sign another deal.

I'd do it at $40m. Takes away some of the PR hit and shuts up Sox fans.

Sox aren't paying anyone else, might as well load up the contract for Harper.

Need to save face after Arrenado and Machado going off the board. Next year's list has no one approaching the potential future of Harper/Machado.

It's good to see watchdogs like you out for the best interest of Jerry Reinsdorf's finances.

No thanks on Harper. The shift has downgraded him. He's not worth the money unless he starts hitting 40 dingers a year.

There's been talk of limiting/eliminating the shift so he may bounce back if that happens. Team has the financial flexibility to do it, plus he's a brand that will generate some attention and revenue.

$40 million per year could change a mind. But that's not the point.

The fucking White Sox act like they're too good to inquire about a free agent but will listen if he calls.

The fucking White Sox.

I could give 0 fucks about Jerry's finances. I was with FF and GD on burning the shit down over the Machado mess.

I don't want Harper and it has nothing to do with Jerry's money. It has everything to do with his 1.3 WAR in 2018 and 1.5 WAR in 2016. He's a good player but highly overhyped. If you actually read before posting you'd have seen that earlier on this exact page.

Have blessed day, Shitfuck.

You guys are sleeping on Harper, nobody pitched to him. Put Abreu behind him and he'll go .300 and 40-120

Im not as down on Harper as some, but that Nationals lineup was loaded. Protection (which doesnt really exist according to the numbers) was not the issue.
