PULASKI (WLUK) -- FOX 11 has confirmed with Pulaski School District officials that former Packers Head Coach Mike McCarthy was involved in an incident with referees following his stepson’s basketball game Tuesday night.

We've also learned a formal complaint about the incident has been submitted to the WIAA.


Pulaski High School defeated Notre Dame Academy by one point in the regional high school boy’s basketball game. The loss ended Notre Dame's season. McCarthy's stepson is a member of the team.


McCarthy has been a regular face in the stands at Notre Dame Academy's basketball games this season, however, his actions after the tight loss at Pulaski crossed a line, according to people at the game.

“This parent chose to follow the officials and berate them, which is clearly unacceptable,” said Janel Batten, Pulaski’s athletic director.

Through an open records request FOX 11 submitted to the Pulaski School District, we were provided security footage from moments after the game concluded. There is no audio, but you can see a Pulaski staff member escorting the referees out of the gym with a man following behind. District officials confirmed the man is McCarthy.

I am amazed at the behavior of coaches, fans, and players at high school basketball games. Nearly every call or non-call results in an angry player, one coach, and half the fans.

Its not just the HS games. Every youth sporting event is like this. I think 95% of the parents actually believe their kid has a great shot at making the pros. If only the volunteer parent, coaches, officials, etc would get out of their kids way.

If it wasnt for the fact that I wanted my kids to be more active I would never allow them to ever play youth sports.

Its also a bit of an arms race. I've seen pretty mild mannered parents act up to keep up with the psychos.
