Now where's that "fake band name" thread?

White Sox management really seems to hate their fans.

Ok, we can cut the Sox a little slack.

Hold up on the slack for a minute.

The conclusion reached by southsidesox in that story (and they do admit it is just them connecting dots) belies the story as told from RH own mouth.

I'll paraphrase: The Padres made their offer. KW AND JR sat down in a room on the Monday and had "a very frank" discussion with Lozano about the parameters of the Padre deal. The Sox submitted a counter chalk full of non guaranteed money that they deemed to be a superior contract. Machado signed the Padre deal.

That is straight from the horse's mouth.

$1 billion to a single player. GTFO with that nonsense. You can buy an entire franchise for a billion dollars.

you thick douche, the point is that even using a ridiculous, hypothetical contract, they still would have been in a manageable payroll

I thought you were done with being a Sox fan anyway? You're doing an awful lot of posting about them for somebody who says this franchise is on their pay no mind list.

I'm just posting because I wanted to call you a thick douche

No, gd. You're just posting because you rant and rave and say you're done with the team like a PMS'ing woman when you know damn well you will attend more 2019 Sox games than just about anybody else on this board.

I doubt I attended five games last year. I will coach 40 or so games this season, take all of my vacation and go on college tours this summer. I don't expect to top last year's number.

Over the years, I think there are MANY things that the Sox have done on and off the field that are petty and cheap.

IMO, offering a player $250million guaranteed isn't one of those things.

If every word of that article is true, the only conclusion is that San Diego's GM would stop at nothing to get Machado, so he did.

You'd be wrong. There was zero chance they'd have to pay up. They may as well have offered him a plug nickel.

The agent gave the Sox an idea of the offers out there and where he expected the offers to end up (no teams or specific details mentioned). They were given Machado's idea of what he wanted in the contract. Lozano never said "Padres are offering 10/300m + opt-out, etc., can you match it" Sox made a counteroffer that they felt was fair to both team and player.

So the Sox had another opportunity to revise their offer (which they did), but never given the specific contract details of the Padres offer. Perhaps this is how it happens in sports negotiations, but an outside view leads me to believe the Sox did enough to bring him in. I don't blame Machado for taking the extra $50m, I just wouldn't have done the Padre offer if I was the Sox.

More like, $25 mil spread out over the first 5 years. It really only matters up to the opt-out.

Who do you think is going to better then Machado and Harper that they are afraid to lose? Foolish to bet your entire rebuild on prospects who have to this point failed.

Also why are you telling people to stop posting about the White Sox? This is a sports fan message board  What are we suppose to comment about? Darvish's new found confidence or the Bulls beating the Grizzles?

Sir asked him if he knew the exact offer. RH response was that they had a very frank (not Costanza) discussion. I guess that leaves it open to interpretation but when a GM tells me he sat down with an agent and an owner for a final and best offer discussion and says that the agent was very frank (I think that was his word, I know he said very) I'll take it to mean the agent told them generally what they had to beat. Remember also this context, Chicago was his preferred destination out of the two.

I think you also have to keep it in the context of the extremely low payrolls of the last couple of years.

The Sox asked their fans for an extraordinary sacrifice. The implication was there would be an extraordinary effort this year.

Just like we can admit that Theo has made some pretty bad FA signings that cost them Harper.

Yes, except the Sox knew up front what Machado was asking for and low balled him.

Here is an article before he signs with the Padres.

MLB Rumors: Bryce Harper, Manny Machado Still Asking for $300M Contracts

Doesn't say, Bryce Harper, Manny Machado Still Asking for $250M Contracts plus 50MIL incentives.

Glad you have a sense of humor. This is what makes me ROFL...

Losers

The ChiSox have pursued both Machado and Harper all winter, though they never did they seem to be the frontrunner for either. Rather, they seemed to linger and hope one of them fell into their laps. They refused to go to $300 million guaranteed for Machado

The White Sox set fans up for disappointment this offseason.

I dont think this was the old Jerry thing of let's come in second so it looks like we tried. I think they really wanted him.

When is the next time a prime free agent will be available and the Yanks, Red Sox, and Cubs are not in and the Dodgers are half in?

Im not trolling, I really thought they'd get Manny and it would be a perfect move for them. Take pressure of Moncada, give the fans a bone, coming into his prime as Eloy shows up.
