It would be completely different if Keyser didn't like Madirgal because of a hitch in his swing, or footwork, or something else concrete that could be explained.

Instead he just dismisses him because of his height which just flat out stupid. The last two AL MVP's were "midgets" as well.

why shouldn't he be great. You don't have to be a power hitter to be great at baseball, although he may not be a saber darling.

He'll be great to watch since he doesn't miss the baseball very often.

I thought his fielding was supposed to be elite, like immediate gold glove candidate level

From my 3 minutes of research they acted like he's an infielder without a set position.

They can't all be Albert Almora.

Agree, he barely strikes out.

Ryan Theriot?

That's probably a decent comp for him.

One of my baseball buddies used to attend a client meeting with Theriot’s brother who was the CFO of the company and ran the meeting.

I'm deathly afraid he's Juan Pierre. I guess last year he was fighting a wrist injury so maybe that was why he was so slappy.

Well, I don't think he's going to be a Hall of Famer but his best three or four years will probably be good enough to lead off and play the middle infield on a championship team.

Every facet of this organization deserves extreme skepticism right now. Kenny and Rick Hahn are terrible at their jobs and they selected Madrigal, why wouldn't I worry that yeah, Theriot is actually probably a realistic comp.

They both played elite level college. How did they compare?

Let's not act as if Theriot was a worthless bum. He hit .280 for his career and got on base 34% of the time. He played on two World Series winners.

but if we are projecting the two using past production as an indicator, I assume Madrigal's college career dwarfed Theriot.

I'm going to hope for more of a Paul Molitor type comp.

If Madrigal is Theriot in a comp, the Sox need to rethink their draft philosophy.

Theriot was a helluva college player, even battling through injury after walking on iirc.

Which recent Cub first rounder outside of Bryant do you think is better than Theriot?

I dont care about the Cubs.

If Madrigal is a journeyman infielder, combined with the other early first round failures during this round of "rebuilding", then it's a massive failure and everyone needs to be fired.

Or killed.

Now you're fantasizing like a Cub fan. Just because you decide to throw away seasons doesn't mean you suddenly draft Hall of Famers.

Look at the great Theo Epstein first rounders. Bryant, maybe Ellsbury, and a bunch of guys who aren't as good as Theriot.
