You're full of bad takes...this is likely one of them.

I think there would be quite a few takers for a 29yo Gold Glove right fielder with a ton of upside @ $10mil per.

Nope

$10M per year on a 5 year deal?

The upside argument is pretty tough to argue with him at this point.

He could get a 1-2 year deal, for $14-$16.

No fucking chance

If Heyward were suddenly a free agent tomorrow, he could easily get 5 years $50MM. This is beyond stupid.

You guys are out of your minds, I hate homers..even if they are Cubs or Bear fans. I'm disgusted.

Just curious how bad you've got the illness, ranking right fielder's. Where do you dipshits have Heyward?

A friend of mine saw a member of the Cubs family and asked him specifically about Heyward. They're on a first name basis. He asked him about his poor mechanics, slow bat, and lack of power. The Cubs guy simply answered "he can't hit".

I still think it's vision related.

Last season, he was finally making consistent, solid contact. I was as frustrated and vocal as anybody when he was only good for full swing bunts and infield pop ups those first two seasons.

At this stage, there should be no reason for him to resist having his swing reworked.

Anybody think he's a top 15 right fielder?

I say he needs a lighter, shorter bat.

For as big and strong as he appears, you never see him hit a long home run. The few he hits seem to barely clear the fence. His swing seems more sweeping than explosive/accelerating, with relatively low wrist action. I think the hardest home run I ever saw him hit was in his first at-bat in the big leagues (as a Brave) off of Carlos Zambrano.

At this point you just have to view him for what he is and ignore the heinous contract. As rpb pointed out, his defense is no longer elite. And if I have to hear Coomer talk about his great base running, I think I will puke. The value of his mediocre base running is zilch to negative.

He just needs to find who helped Big Papi with his swing when he went to the Red Sox.

Totally agree. If they could move him they would. Nobody is dumb enough to take that shitty contract on. They fucked up but probably wouldn't have won the WS without his divine speech during the delay.

I think he is still top 15. There is a big drop off after 5.

Nope. Jaw is spot on. I’d rather Almora get 600 at bats and Happ 450. Let’s see if these guys have anything.

Build on last season? He didn't do much. His numbers improvement is microscopic. Little better ops, batting average. You do realize we're talking about one of the worst free agent contracts in mlb history?

The worst. And I don’t care one bit that bad contract had the owner tie Theos hands.

Its definitely not the worst ever. There are guys that got huge contracts that didnt even play. It's very bad though.

But that's the risk you run when your team is a big spender.

I certainly “enjoyed” the Bradley, Hundley, and Rojas contracts. But those did less damage. Shorter and a lot less money.

Heyward might be the CUBS worst ever. Just not MLB worst ever.

Josh Hamilton, Mike Hampton, Pablo Sandoval

I’d be very Happ-y to never see him swing a bat again. Looks like a player that guesses at which pitch is coming.

Those are good examples. I agree with you. I think Harper would be here without that contract. But then who knows about 2016.

You will probably be able to add Pujols' deal with the Angels to this list.

And I would say that if Darvish has another injury riddled season and only starts 15 games or so this year, his contract approaches the Cubs worst ever.

Is #1 Milton Bradley's deal?

Agreed. In fact I think they put Heyward's opt out in this year specifically for that reason. If Heyward turned out great, youd have your choice of either guy.

Tough to say with what's gone on the last two years.

Before that Id say someone would give him a deal in the 8-10 million per range.

Basically, if you are a free agent who is a starter, you are making 8-10 million per

Heyward contributed nothing to that ring, Cubs still should have signed Harper and dumped Schwarber.

You've said that a few times, but he absolutely did contribute with defense/baserunning and even a couple big hits.

Way less contribution than we'd hoped or his money would dictate, but not zero

You know what I mean, give any other guy 50 at bats in the post season and they'll give ya much more than a .103 batting average. That's worse than most pitchers.

Kimbrel can be had on the cheap for a one or 2 year deal, make it happen.

If anything I wish they would go get Martin Maldinado to help with the backup catching position. I doubt he even costs 1 mil at this point.
