"all around player?" GTFO here with that. Babe was a Hall of Fame pitcher before he even went to the Yankees. You think the CUBS FRONT OFFICE MAN was comparing Schwarber's ability to throw a baseball to Ruth?

Thanks for agreeing with me, Frank! That has been my whole point! They were definitely not making a 1:1 comparison.

No. It was specifically about him being a generational talent of a hitter, and Schwarber has fallen way way way short of that. You are the one continuing to post nonsense here dude.

No, it was about his prodigious power like Ruth. Specifically his home runs as pittmike pointed out.

Glad we all agree.

And Schwarber falling short of expectations is not something that bothers me. It happens. Ill never forget his part of 2016 though.

  More nonsense.

The phrase 'Babe effin Ruth' came straight from the horse's mouth, and you want to ignore it. Fair enough.

Im not ignoring anything.

Im interpreting the quote in the most rational way possible.

If you believe the Cub exec meant Schwarber would be one of the greatest hitters that ever lived as opposed to meaning that he has prodigious power from the left hand side, Ill just have to disagree.

I think it's clear my interpretation makes more sense but maybe Im wrong. Maybe the Cub exec thought Schwarber would hit 700 home runs and become the greatest player who ever lived. Seems kinda far fetched though.

It’s hard to spin “Babe Fucking Ruth” but rpb is giving a hell of an effort.

Look if you want to say that making ANY comparison to Ruth is ridiculous because of Ruth's greatness, Ill agree.

But I think its clear the comparison was specifically about their power and monster home runs, not their offense overall.

I believe it's extremely unlikely that any person anywhere thought Kyle Schwarber would be the greatest hitter that ever lived.

You really think it's unlikely from a scout? We have one who posts here who said Adam Engel was a Hall of Famer.

You're not, actually.

Were you there when this was stated? I wasn't, so I'm not going to guess at the context of what the exec meant. I will just take his word for word statement at face value.

Its very clear to pretty much everyone other than you that if a FRONT OFFICE EXECUTIVE is calling one of the minor league players "Babe effin Ruth," they are reasonably sure that said hitter is going to be a generational talent and a dominant hitter for MANY years at the MLB level. That is the interpretation that makes the most sense, and its not the way you are taking it.

"Potentially generational"? Sure. Based on his towering line drive homers.

Ill give Keyser the benefit of the doubt and say that was hyperbole.

You guys think he really believed that?

Now that my expectations have been ratcheted irretrievably downward, I'm pretty pumped to see Ryan Theriot 2.0 lead the Sox to 75 wins at some point during his career. Maybe Hahn can use this year's first round pick to draft Royce Clayton 2.0. This rebuild is rolling, bitches.

Don't feed the trolls RPB. These idiots are just deflecting the fact that all their top prospects are shit except maybe the ones that Theo drafted.

Stan Zielinski was the scout's name(40 years scouting) and he referred to Schwarber as Babe Ruth multiple times.

“I believed today,” Stan Zielinski wrote in May 2014. “I will send clip. To preview, squint your eyes and imagine a grainy film of Babe Ruth hitting a ball in the stands at Yankee Stadium. I swear I saw that reenacted today as the ball flew out over the 2nd fence in RF.”

"He has the best college bat I’ve seen in a long time, and remember I’m old so I’ve seen a lot of them."

" 'Yes, I would consider him with 4th pick.' Squint again and you can see him call his shot and point to CF bleachers in Wrigley Field."

It would not surprise me at all. This is the same guy who thinks Tim Anderson is one of the better shorstops in the AL, that Robin Ventura was a great manager, and that Yoan Moncada will amount to nothing.

This in no way implies Schwarber is the second coming. Great college bat? Sure. Should be considered at #4? Sure.

Squint and dream? Sure, baseball hyperbolic romanticism.

He's not too fond of Madrigal The Midget, either.

Your ongoing feud with Keyser on the subject of White Sox baseball is actually far more interesting than the subject of White Sox baseball.

1 out 3 of those predictions is true.

He also had Gordon Beckham lined up as a HOF'er back in the day too. Keyser has his man crushes, and he never backs away from them even when he's proven to be horrendously wrong.

He said great "college" bat.

He may as well have said "He was the greatest Little League hitter I've ever seen. Squint and watch him hit a home run and it's like looking at a little Babe Ruth."

Keep beating a dead horse to avoid confronting the Sad Sox.

Instead of just saying, "Yeah the Cubs exec comparing Schwarber to Babe Ruth was pretty dumb," you guys are trying to spin this into something else. We're literally taking exact words said by a Cubs front office person and a scout to show you guys how ridiculous Cubs fans can be. All you're doing is proving our point for us.

Clearly talking about his prodigious home run power, like I said.

If you cant admit that quote is specifically and CLEARLY about home run power, you're just being dishonest.
