If you can't admit that this quote is specifically and CLEARLY comparing Schwarber to 'Babe effing Ruth', you're just trolling.

This in no way implies Schwarber is the second coming. Great college bat? Sure. Should be considered at #4? Sure.

Squint and dream? Sure, baseball hyperbolic romanticism.

Not a "great" bat. The best bat he can remember.

I swear I saw that reenacted today

Thanks for further confirmation GoldenJet. What a self own.

That is clearly comparing Ruth's home run power to Schwarbers. He LITERALLY mentioned a HOME RUN.

So you're trolling. Which is fine, just don't deny it.

"He has the best college bat I’ve seen in a long time, and remember I’m old so I’ve seen a lot of them."

I put that quote in for a reason. It gives context to the Ruth quotes and destroys the argument that the comparison to Ruth wasn't JUST about the power.

No, Frank. I am using the most logical explanation of the statement.

We have a left handed power hitter who hits huge bombs in college compared to Babe Ruth and in the comparison they mention home runs specifically.

The most logical thing to believe there is they are comparing Schwarber's power with Ruth's.

If you believe he meant, overall offensive player and the greatest to ever do it, that is quite a stretch.

Best bat he's seen in a long time = will be the greatest hitter that ever lived

The Ruth part was CLEARLY about power. Obviously the guy thought Schwarber was a good hitter.

There is no way on this planet the guy thought Schwarber would be the greatest hitter of all time.

That is what you guys are arguing and it's pretty nuts.

This is a professional scout of 40 years writing an official report on a player. I would say he was experienced enough to choose his words as he saw fit. When Bernstein said "Babe Fucking Ruth", he was quoting his sources in the Cubs front office. They didn't say, "Adam Fucking Dunn", did they?

Ok, so you guys believe the scout (not a Cub fan) thought Kyle Schwarber was going to be the greatest hitter that ever lived.

I find that hard to believe but that's just my take.

There's a reason it became an instant meme.

Yes, I agree that it's a hard-to-believe and ridiculous take from the scout, but it appears to be real.

No, we're not arguing this at all. A professional and respected scout, along with a member of the Cubs front office, both compared Schwarber to Babe Ruth. We are literally using their own words (text). It's nuts that you are still posting about this and trying to spin it. GoldenJet, to his credit, seemingly has left the conversation.

Yes, they compared Ruth's power to Schwarber's power. That's why home runs were mentioned specifically

Not sure what is so difficult about this.

I do like how invested you are in this though. I know it's a dark time for you and you are still reeling from 2016 but this is a bit much.

Again, if this scout was comparing Schwarber to Ruth as an overall offensive force, that's pretty crazy and hard to believe but if he did, he did. This began with a statement about Cub fans anyway, not scouts. An unbiased look at that quote would definitely find it more logical to believe it was about power.

Since this is a second hand quote from a scout you cant even name, Im not sure you are in a position to say exactly what he meant. But you have an agenda and arent looking at it objectively, so I get it.

Were you there when this was stated? I wasn't, so I'm not going to guess at the context of what the exec meant. I will just take his word for word statement at face value.

rogers park bryan wrote:
I think it's clear my interpretation makes more sense but maybe Im wrong. Maybe the Cub exec thought Schwarber would hit 700 home runs and become the greatest player who ever lived. Seems kinda far fetched though.
Its very clear to pretty much everyone other than you that if a FRONT OFFICE EXECUTIVE is calling one of the minor league players "Babe effin Ruth," they are reasonably sure that said hitter is going to be a generational talent and a dominant hitter for MANY years at the MLB level. That is the interpretation that makes the most sense, and its not the way you are taking it.

This has nothing to do with the White Sox. This has to do with a Cubs front office person, AND a scout specifically comparing Kyle Schwarber the hitter to Babe Ruth.

This wasn't some offhand comment. Schwarber was still in the minors when the Cubs exec made the Ruth comparison.

A forty year baseball scout said he was one of the single best college bats he had ever remembered seeing, and if you squint you can see Babe Ruth. If you don't think the scout thought that Schwarber was going to be an offensive force, then I cannot help you.

I'm not taking second hand comments or making anything up. I am literally using the exact words from the Cubs front office and a scout who has been in the game over four decades.

You are so dug in on my Sox fandom and my supposed agenda that you are unable to see how ridiculous you sound, and how ridiculous it was to compare Kyle Schwarber to Babe Ruth.

Of course the scout thought Schwarber could be an offensive force. That's why he said he was worth the #4 pick.

The scout must really have been drunk to compare ANY minor league player to Babe Ruth. IF the guy actually was sober and serious, he should have been forced to give up his radar gun and stop watch on the spot.

I don't think that's his ceiling. I just think it's ridiculous to act as if the guy should automatically be better than a career .280 hitter.

.280 hitter hitter with zero power and below average infielder. That's not a real high ceiling.

Nick "The Riot" Madrigal sent to minor league camp.

Quote:
The White Sox announced Tuesday that a quintet of prospects have been reassigned from big league camp to minor league camp. Headlining the bunch is second baseman Nick Madrigal, the No. 5 prospect in the White Sox system. Last year's first-round draft pick had 13 at-bats in eight Cactus League games, picking up four hits and walking twice.

Joining Madrigal on the trip to minor league camp is outfielder Blake Rutherford (No. 9 White Sox prospect), outfielder Luis Gonzalez (No. 10), pitcher Bernardo Flores and pitcher Jordan Guerrero.
