The new S10 is a great phone.

I've had a Galaxy since S4 and I'm on S8 now. Planning on the S10 soon. Will never go to Apple.

I was on an S7 since a couple months after it came out. The S10 is a huge performance upgrade. I can only describe every action as instantaneous, whether it be email, browser, games, NBA League Pass, etc. Not all apps take advantage of the unusual aspect ratio, but the apps that do look and feel great. The default corporate email app has become much more solid to use with the additional screen real estate.

Now I have to replace all my cables with USB-C... And some of my old Fast Charging bricks don't seem to offer Fast Charge on the S10.

I just got a Nokia 6. For what I need a phone to do, it's been great. It was inexpensive and unlocked.

My Huawei Nexus 6P was a load of crap. Really the only Android dud that I've had so far.

I'm only a couple of months in with my Moto G6. So far, i like it. It's a moderately priced phone ($215 minus $100 signup credit) that'll last me eighteen months, and with Google Fi has good signal quality across T-Mo/Sprint, and in some places US Cellular.

Recently picked up a One Plus 6 (the original with headphone jack and back-plate fingerprint reader). One Plus only has 6Ts (no headphone jack, crappy on screen fingerprint reader) avail on their site. But the original One Plus 6's go for around $400 on Amazon. Great device. They have their own iteration of Android, Oxygen OS? Based on Android 8.1 tho. And google's about to release another major version of Android that'll make 8.1 two generations behind.

Considered the Nokia Pureview 9 (about $600) and the Samsung S10 (starts at $750 for the e model and goes up quickly from there) . Hard to see the value they provided over the One Plus 6 that made them worth double the price.

Nokia did away with the headphone jack for the 9 and they also switched to a buggy on screen fingerprint reader. Nokia's Android One devices (the Pureview 9 and the 7.1 at least) all get android updates at the same time as the pixel/nexus devices. Motorola devices used to get updates quickly, but I think it's only the pixel/nexus devices and Android One devices like the various nokia phones that get immediate android updates.

Samsung's s10 has a super buggy on-screen fingerprint reader but they retained the headphone jack. The reviews of the various S10's (s10e, S10, S10+) point out that unless you really want that extra camera lens(es) then there's not much diff btw the lowest priced s10E and the other 2--except screen size. Tho the s10e avoids the annoying Samsung edge screen thing that the other 2, higher-end models have. the S10's camera reportedly is a disappointment. Probably a plenty good camera but folks were expecting something more top-shelf for the price.

Had a Nokia 7.1 Android One device prior to the One Plus 6. Great device for the price, the Nokia 7.1--about $270 unlocked. However, after a couple months of use the usb port conked out, rendering the device an expensive paperweight. Hoping either Nokia will cover it under their warranty or Amazon will swap it out for a functioning version; as it's apparently a known issue with the Nokia 7.1. Going by the reviews, Amazon has been cool about letting folks exchange defective devices with the usb failure for working 7.1's outside the exchange period.

Tried the Blackberry key2 before the Nokia 7.1. Liked the idea of a hardware keyboard but it'd be better if it were a landscape keyboard instead of a too small portrait keyboard.

One Plus 6 for $400 on amazon is the wtg.

Holy shit. Avoided OnePlus 6t same reasons you said. After extensive research settled on one plus 6 too. Got the cheapest one they had on Black Friday for $429. Still great specs. Surprised ccfc went Moto. Had Moto g3. Not great specs, but good phone. One plus 6 battery life is pretty amazing.

One thing I've learned to prolong battery life is let the battery run out, out of the box. Not charge it like the manual says new. Then after first drain, charge it to 100%. Never top it off above 80%, don't let it get under 15-20%. Set an alarm once you know it's charging time. Don't let it charge at 100% too long. Drain it to zero about every 6 weeks or so only.

I don't use the fingerprint thing, but did check it out for 10 minutes and can confirm it sucks. But I never intended to use it anyways. I'm a pattern guy.

The extra camera lenses and the camera seem fantastic. And I do use my phone's camera for work sometimes, when an SLR isn't worth carrying around.

What do people not like about the Edge screen?

yeah, it's the same every new device release season "these darn phones aren't the best at taking pictures". the s10's camera hasn't fared well in comparisons to nokia's targeted-to-photography pureview 9 but both are inferior for actual photography purposes compared to even entry level digital cameras. camera phones are great at taking pics to be viewed on mobile devices/the web but if you wanna make decent quality prints you should probably be using an actual digital camera and not your phone.

re: the edge screen. people complain about inadvertently touching the screen and making the interface jump. the curved edge screens are also more difficult to fit a protective case to and leave the screen more exposed to breaking. plus they have a weird aspect ratio and the curves, at least on the early models, distorted full screen videos and had more glare/light bleed. Possibly samsung's addressed the distortion/light bleed issues on the latest version. but the bubbled up screen being more susceptible to breaking and inadvertent touches is probably not something they can engineer away.

So at least for the S10, I have multiple settings that allow me to tweak the lighting on the Edges separate from the rest of the phone's display, and settings that allow me to tweak the sensitivity of 'accidental presses' on the 'Edges.'

I haven't bought a new non SLR digital camera in awhile, but this S10 takes better photos than any of the Sony DSC series cameras our sales and inspection teams bring with them into the field.

I have a Speck Presidio Grip case (as I have had for all my phones going on 6 or 7 years now) and it includes a normal lip that protects the screen from most falls at most angles. It does not block the edge screen at all.

I think even within Android circles, a vocal minority of Samsung haters has grown and say how X and Y about Samsung phones suck, without owning one.

My company has mostly iPhones, but there are also a variety of Androids. I think the S10 is the best phone yet, and easily the best Android (of the Motorola, LG and Google phones I've messed with)

My Pixel3 just crapped out in less than 3 months. 1st issue I've had with an Android.

Pixel 3 = first pixel/nexus reference device google built "in house" vs the previous pixels/nexuses being rebranded HTC/LG/Motorola et al devices. I have an HTC m8 that's been banging around for 5 years or so that I've used in the last year as a backup. Still works fine. HTC makes good devices but the proliferation of huaweis and one pluses offering equally tricked out devices at a fraction of HTC's Samsung/pixel/iphone level-pricing puts HTC in a losing position going forward as they don't have the brand cache of Samsung/google/Apple. Either HTC needs to knock it out of the park with their next flagship device or try to compete more on price.

LG's tend to be good devices for audio. But an external headphone amp makes any mobile device better for audio. I recently picked up an Earstudio bluetooth (btw device and earstudio) to wired headphones dac/amp thing that's about the size of the sandisk sansa with a clip. Tidal subscription + some half-way decent IEMs/headphones + one of these bluetooth amps makes streaming audio via your phone a much better experience. FiiO also makes a range of similar bluetooth enabled headphone amps, as do many others.

Verizon has some stupid Security & Privacy bloatware that I had to disable quickly, because it started shouting stupid stuff at me immediately.

I carried my S7 backup over so I can't answer the question very well. The Samsung app folder only contains 4 items (one is My Files). It comes pre-installed with a few Yahoo apps that can all be fully uninstalled, as well as 2 games. Textra and Truecaller carried over fairly well as my apps that replace the default texting and calling apps.
