What hypocrites these people are. I remember seeing them flapping their gums at how unjust the education system is for poor people, especially women. So now they fixed the process to benefit their own rich kids. What about the kids who actually deserved to get into those schools based on merit and not the power of their parents.

I guess I should be more "offended" by the actual crime, but it strikes me that the celebrities are especially stupid. They could have easily schmoozed their way in.

Rather than just these people, I think that it's time to look at the bloated, corrupt and ineffectual collegiate system as a whole.

Plus, what does it say about these colleges that these unqualified students would probably cruise through the actual coursework, courtesy of more bribes or donations to pad their grades/tests.

We've started looking at some of these schools for my oldest -- Vanderbilt is fucking $74,000 per year. Sad it's turned into such a racket.

Not so much "in on it," but either the work isn't as challenging as the "elite" schools would lead you to believe, or the students are getting help unbeknownst to the teachers. Though I wouldn't put it past them either. If the fucking soccer coach is getting $400k from a parent, you'd think some of that might trickle down to faculty.

Alan Dershowitz said in the past these kids would simply flunk out of school, but that today schools don't fail anyone anymore.

You have to wonder what accounts for the absurb tuition of schools in this country. Anyone here see a breakdown of what accounts for the difference in tuition between the so-called elite colleges and universities and others? I have to wonder. I would very much doubt that the actual teaching is much different.

Wow, do you have any data that shows what the average Vanderbilt grad makes out of college?

Why is the price of steak at Morton's sooo much more expensive than the ones at Applebee's? I mean, steak is steak right?

As usual this topic has gotten all over the map. But more important than however someone would measure Vanderbilt vs Purdue vs NIU is networking. The professor is better perhaps but at a Ivy for instance you buy into a network that repays you for life.

You've basically demonstrated how inequality maintains itself for generations.

Right, the professors at Yale are much more likely to do long-term damage to your child's critical thinking skills than a teacher at Governors State.

Yea cause left wing evil and such

I know a guy who has been talking about not wanting his kid to go to college for that reason since about 2003 at least.

Here is my question: What percentage of the average education includes politics? I mean, I get that history is going to lend itself to that, but overall, it's still a very small percentage of the overall education right?

I mean, the STEM curriculum (which Im guessing makes up the majority) is pretty apolitical right?

It is because you can easily obtain over 200k in student loans from the government with virtually no questions asked. Plus those loans can never be forgiven through bankruptcy. It is free money for the colleges.

Nothing is apolitical. I can't even imagine what the questions are like on math tests at Yale.

If a train from Portland leaves for Chicago travelling at 80 MPH and a train leaves Chicago for Portland travelling at 90 MPH, how much labor would you have to steal from the hard-working man to subsidize the train ride for everyone else?

I disagree. I think you are partially joking but Im not sure.

I do agree there is liberal bias in places you wouldnt think, but that doesn't mean it's EVERYwhere

Do I believe that all individual university faculty members have a latent Leftist agenda? No.

Do I believe that Communism has infiltrated our universities and hung around long enough in large enough swaths to create an irreversible and pervasive culture that idealizes seizing the means of production from the Capitalist class? Yes.

If New Haven's education was half as good as its pizza, it wouldn't be a depressing shithole.
