remember when everyone was chiding me for saying that Bryant would hold keeping him in the minors against the organization at contract time?

Yes. What of it?

Ill still chide you on it because it’s gonna matter fuck all whether or not he re-ups here .

Do you believe there are players who took less money to play for the Cubs?

Also, has a Boras client ever done anything but take the most money?

Going to Phillies when he's a FA to play with Bryce.

Boras does what his clients want.

I think Bryant will go into negotiations remembering the service time thing.

I disagree, especially a bright guy like Bryant.

Anyone that holds a grudge based on something that is done across the entire industry is being ridiculous.

In fact, every team that would go after Bryant has done the same thing.

Didn't he file a grievance about it? I don't think that is true that all teams will have done it especially in a way as obvious as what the Cubs did.

Why wouldn't he hold a grudge about it? It was a big deal.

I don't really care what happens but I think it's hilarious that people think he has forgotten about the last contract related business move by the Cubs when he has another one coming up with the same organization.

My only point is that Bryant won't do the Cubs any favors in negotiations because of it. There isn't really a way to know if he did or not.

That's why I asked if players have taken less money to play with the Cubs. If someone thinks they did, then they also should think the service time may be an issue.

I don't know what Bryant will or won't do.

But I do think that if he signs with any team other than the Cubs you will be right there to say see I told you he would hold it against the Cubs....

Future Brick ( if Bryant signs with the Cubs ) HA HA, look at much they had to overpay to keep Bryant because he was mad about his service time 6 years ago !!

Future BRick ( If Bryant signs elsewhere )

See, I knew his service time was going to an issue in him signing with the Cubs !!

Won’t happen . Theo has a plan in place to keep him involving hiring tangential family members of Bryant’s and Jim Thome.

Honestly, you guys have wanted this since back then as a way to troll Cub fans but it's a ridiculous premise. This has happened to many players and there has never been any report of a grudge or it coming up in free agency years later. He's going to sign wherever offers to best combo of money and comfort for him and his family. That's it.

Because you are incorrectly thinking the Cubs did something different or unexpected.

It's a stupid rule and the backlash grows every year, but it was the right move at the time and Bryant knows that.

He isn't dumb enough to hold an industry wide standard against his own team.

Pretty much everyone wouldn't hold it against the Cubs or ANY one team because it's about the rule being stupid, not the Cubs reacting to the dumb rule.

Eloy wont hold last year against the White Sox either. And Acuna wont hold it against the Braves, just like none of the literally hundreds of guys that it's happened to.

If there is a guy who will do it, it's Vlad Jr. But the Blue Jays are going above and beyond the normal practice. But still, when he hits free agency it probably wont be a factor.

Because I am generally a joyful optimistic bloke I thing Bryant is the one that gets paid and stays with the Cubs. Also, I can only think of two reasons he doesn't stay. One is Boras convinces him for some reason begin the biggest contract of all time is better than Cubdom somehow. Two is he simply wants to get back home west.

As a huge Bryant fan, the things that worry me about him resigning are:

Maddon being gone
Rizzo being gone
Weather
Harper recruitment

Ok, name all the other teams that got a grievance filed against them for this. You can't just say that and act like it is some indisputable fact.

Other teams have played service time games too but there are very few examples of one that was so obvious as this one.

Also, the whole point here is that he will remember that the Cubs did that to him when the next round of contract negotiations take place. Maybe you are right that he will just go to whoever offers the most money but with how much other fans like to say that players have taken less money to play for the Cubs it is a bizarre stance to think that a move the Cubs did to screw over Bryant on service time to the point that he filed a grievance against them won't matter at all in negotiations.

He filed a grievance about it.

It may have been the best business move for the Cubs.

Have you followed the Blake Snell saga? Do you think he knows the Marlins made the right move in trying to pay the returning Cy Young award winner the league minimum?
