Guys, Lawrence is horrible. And he's fucking weird. He really is. It's like a backup QB that performs well in spurts, gets overpaid and shits himself in a starting job. You hear a little bit and maybe think "he isn't that bad", but really he is. There is a reason he gets passed by time and time again for a daytime slot.

You overstate. I did not say he is awesome. I said he is very professional. He is fine.

He's certainly not the best host on the Score, as TM stated. Far from it.

Well, who is then?

To be honest, it's probably McNeil. He still has a strong following.

My guy tells me that Mac and Bernstein had to take a big pay cut so Holmes could get his big raise.

They are gonna force Bernsie to take a haircut after this. He will be looking to move.

This also sets LoHo up to replace Kaplan at SportsTalk Live if Kaplan goes to Marquee.

Then again, if Kaplan goes to Marquee, he probably replaces Bernstein and McDoink from 9-12.

Is Joe O official for nights, or speculation? I'm suprised they don't put Speigel there.

And they won't even have to force him. He's going to Andre Dawson it for the rest of his career.

I would imagine Berntein, McKnight, McNeil, and Parkins all take a pay cut. Why would they keep paying them the same while cutting their hours? They aren't getting less air time because they are producing great ratings.

Where can Bernstein move? I can't see him lighting it up @ AM 1000, and whatever chance there was for him to be a crossover type host at a non-sports-station died out with the halcyon days of B&B. Hell, after this decade I have a hard time seeing him land that national gig we always assumed he was capable of getting back in the day.

Bernstein has rode the roller coaster ride from being popular/beloved (pre-penn-st) to hated/reviled (post-penn-st/B&G) to the worst of all: totally irrelevant (post-B&G). Ergo, I can't see him packing up some sponsors and moving over to a podcast (even with Terry) cuz I just dont think anyone these days sees a sporting event and thinks "man I can't wait to hear what B&B have to say about this" like we did back in the early-mid 00s.

THEREFORE, I see Bernsie gleefully accepting any and all haircuts and being a "team player" / "score guy" til the (formally) bitter end. I just can't see the guy doing anything else beyond hoping he's got enough stroke @ the score to survive one more crappy partner.

Btw here's to hoping that no matter what there's still enough incentive for DaMaNeel to keep on rolling out of bed in the morning. No matter how much we might huff and puff and/or chafe over DaMaNeel and Beerstine there's no doubt that the score will be an entirely different place once those two are gone =\

No, Bernstein is smart, he'll take the paycut and enjoy being home an hour earlier

I don't think this move bothers Bernsie at all. He will gladly take his checks and have to do less work.

The one that will be bothered by this is Parkins. He wants to be on the air as much as possible. I am guessing he is not happy about this and it could make for some interesting transitions.

You can tell he works hard at his radio gig. But god damn, he’s just so creepy anytime he discusses women. Less innuendo and more soul-moving, please.

From Tribune:
“One of the things I’m really happy about is no one loses a job with my promotion,” Holmes said. “I don’t know if I would have accepted any promotion that would have called for someone to lose their job. … I don’t want someone worrying about where their next paycheck is coming from while I’m celebrating something.”

What a load of bs. A dig at Mac? Easy to be generous when it doesn't cost you anything after the fact. A+ in bs.

I wonder if knowledge of this is what made Parkins apply for the weekend gig he got with CBS, or if he was going to do that anyway?

Looks like the Sox borrowed from the Score's playbook by locking up Jimenez for the long haul.

Chicago sports fans can now rest assured that they won't be losing the city's two generational talents anytime soon.

Loho and Eloy will dominate the city for years to come.

Booyah!

This is about the Score looking for replacement talent going forward.

If LoHo and Joe O do well, they will have usable talent to replace certain hosts,(see bernstein for starters) and will not miss a beat.

Replacement players being paid less money going forward. A huge coup if it works out for DeCastro.

If they do not already know what they have in Larry then they are stupid.

Fair point about Joe O...but not with Larry

Can you force them to take a pay cut in the middle of their contracts even if their on-air hours are cut?

It would have been preferred if The Score would put someone new from Noon - 2:00 pm, instead of another retread host. Find an ex-athlete who has some charisma or a TV personality who could do the short show and still make their TV broadcast at 5:00 pm. Put one of the women at NBC Sports Chicago with a guy and have something new in the market. But, no....it's the same old thing, just in a new time slot.

LoHo could still do nights, even when there is a Cubs game. Examples:

East coast Cubs game at 6:00, LoHo from 10 to midnight. Grobstein at midnight
Central time zone Cubs game at 7:00, LoHo from 11 to 1 am. Grobstein at 1 am (Extend McNeil/Parkins for 30-60 minutes on these nights)
West coast Cubs game at 9:00...LoHo from 6-9, Grobstein after the game
If there's no Cubs game or it's a day game, LoHo from 6-10, fill -in with someone from 10-12 (JDC, I guess), Grobstein at midnight

Factor in the pre and post game shows as you wish.

Why can't LoHo currently work past 10 pm? Plus, there is zero reason for Grobstein to work 6 or 7 hours on any night. Zero reason....

This would affect your girl JDC. She would be regulated to mostly weekends, where she belongs. It would also probably get Entercom sued by her.

But it makes more sense to me than having LoHo on during the day where his schtick has been proven not to work and having Mr Vanilla, Joe O, on at night so that he can preach to me and bore me with his bad takes and bad betting picks.

Have a nice day.
