No shit. I thought this might be the most tragic thread ever created.

I haven't seen anything curriculum that would make me want to switch my daughter over from Daisy Scouts, except that her troop leaders aren't that great. Maybe I'm expecting too much from 2 volunteers supervising 10+ 5 and 6 year olds, but the classroom management skills just aren't there to get anything done. It's probably because my daughter can actually sit still and listen (denisbrag ahead) because we've (and by we I mean Grandma) dropped about $40k in 4 years of Montessori school, but she's one of the few. It doesn't help they booked meetings in the cavernous grade school cafeteria and, like gases, the kids eventually expand to fill the space. The 2 meetings they had in the small rooms at the library went much better. We'll keep her in for her 2nd year of Daisies, but will think it over before Brownies.

So, instead of selling overpriced cookies, she'll be selling overpriced popcorn every year?

Man, fuck that popcorn. The unpopped kernels they sell are an okay deal, at least compared to the insane regular popcorn.

Woe unto the twelve year-old in Duncan Mills, Illinois (it's just outside Lewistown and not far from Ipava), who, three years back, assured me that the tin I purchased from him contained three bags of that awesome carmel corn. Turns out it contained one bag of carmel corn and a blank holiday card.

The coal mining merit badge comes with a lot of risk and they knew it.

My general rule is if a kid comes up to me I’ll buy something for their fundraiser because I hated doing it as a kid when I had to sell those damn World’s greatest chocolate bars. I think the last two years I saved up lawn mowing money or something and bought the damn box myself. That being said, I’m about ready to draw the line on boyscout crap. It’s terrible.

Why? What do the boys do that the girls can't do? I was never a scout.. assuming it was crafts, camping etc..all similar stuff.

I don't give a flying fuck about your children. I don't care who they
are, where they are, how old they are, or what they are doing. Want me
to see pictures of your kids or grand kids? Sure, but hold on while I
turn on the paper shredder.

What's that? You're selling cookies/candy/whatever so little Mason
and Emma can waste an afternoon at Disney World? Sure I'll take some
candy -- so long as I can smash it in your motherfucking face. This is
an office where I do work -- not a goddamn bazaar to peddle the wares
of your snot-nosed offspring.

I don't care how smart you think your kids are. No, your children
aren't geniuses. You'll be lucky if your brats move out of your
hovel's basement at age 30 -- after they've climbed the ladder to
success making change at a gas station.

You love your children? Good -- tell it to someone who gives a shit.

Keep your motherfucking brats out of movie theaters and restaurants.
Seriously, no one wants the living incarnation of your seed disturbing
our shows and meals, spreading viruses and bacteria with every goddamn
thing they touch. You need a night out? Fine -- hire someone else's
fucking brat to watch yours, ya cheap fuck.

No, I don't want to pay more in taxes to send your pathetic pieces of
dope-shit to school. Oh, you want "more resources"? Better
"facilities"? Better student-teacher "ratios"? Well la-de-fucking-da:
why don't you FUCKING PAY FOR IT. If you're not catching my drift, let
me make it clear: I don't want to throw my money away educating your
third-rate douchebag of a kid so he or she can wash my car on the
weekend. You gave birth to it, you pay for it.

Your children are our future? Fuck the future, fuck your kids, and
fuck you.

My dad took me to a Cub Scouts orientation when I was a kid. He didn't know anything about it because they didn't have scouts in the old country, they had World War II.

I can still picture the session in the school auditorium, I think because of the novelty of going there at night.

We listened to the pitch, and left. In the car, my dad asked me what I thought and I replied "stupid."

That was the end of young Chet's scouting career.
