MLB gives out a championship belt every year to the team that does the best at suppressing wages.

I want to see a list of the title holders:

https://mlb.nbcsports.com/2019/03/29/ml ... bitration/

The Belt changes hands shortly after season’s end, in a crowded conference room at a luxury resort, where delegates from every MLB team have been summoned for a symposium on arbitration. For three hours, they will work together at the direction of the league to set recommendations, which teams will use in negotiations with their players. It’s a thankless job. So before the meeting adjourns, they’ll celebrate an unsung hero in this battle over dollars. The ceremony ends with the presentation of a replica championship belt, awarded by the league to the team that did most to “achieve the goals set by the industry.” In other words: The team that did the most to keep salaries down in arbitration.

I'm preferential to the mustard belt.

The whole "championship belt" thing was a nice little tradition that players shared among themselves, starting with the old Sheed/Chauncey/Ben Pistons, if I remember correctly. So of course that was stolen, subverted, and perverted by middle management.

I hope the players have finally figured out that any worst possible scenario allowed by the CBA will be enforced by most teams.

I hope they also figured out it’s not just the owners against them. Their own agents favor the top percentage and not the middle class. And they all give no shits about minor leaguers except a couple Bryant’s.

You know for all the grief owners get ( basically being rich legacy dumbfucks, cops with money essentially ) handed everything to them on a silver platter, graduated college without doing any work , passed only because of daddy’s money, they sure seem to negotiate great deals for themselves in regards to TV and always seem to get the upper hand in player contracts but yeah, they’re the dumb ones .

Sports economics discussions are so weird. Give the players billions so you can pay for a $75 ticket and $10 tall boy beer. Enjoy! The little guy is winning!

None of them are your friend but I definitely go players > owners.

Everyone makes fun of these guys for essentially being caretakers of a license to print money. Well, let me ask you this: how come they're printing all that money?
