When I worked over there I had one student attend South Shore. That was in like 2006 and it was his neighborhood school. Most of our students went to Brooks, Kenwood or Catholic schools. A few went to Ignatius for free through Link Unlimited.

He's absolutely insufferable when it comes to any discussion of educational attainment. If you combine his twitter feed and what he says on the air, it seems like he mentions at least one of the following topics every week: the fact that he went to Duke, the fact some of his former class mates at Duke have gone on to great wealth and success, the fact that his father was a big shot lawyer, the SAT, the ACT, some AP class he took 35 years ago, the fact that he seems to be friends/related to several doctors, or his kids' educational attainment. You could combine the educational attainment references of everyone else on the daytime WSCR staff, and they still wouldn't equal his. It reeks of insecurity and he doesn't need to do it.

I love that he openly said he chose to live in chicago so his kids could go to school with people of color (paraphrasing). Magnate grade schools. Selective enrollment high schools. Then it will be off to either Duke or Cornell at which he has pull.

Then he sits there on Twitter with the faux hand wringing over whether his kid would receive acceptance into a selective enrollment high school, as if he has kinship with so many people in this city whose choice is either selective enrollment or a much less acceptable local school because finances cannot provide any other choice. The Bernstein's choice is selective enrollment or Latin (or a similar level school). He just doesn't want to have to pay for Latin, even with a mid six figure income and an inheritance in the eight figure range that is not too far in the future. He will proudly proclaim he chose selective enrollment because of diversity but the reality of a place like Payton is that it isn't all that much more diverse than Latin.

My kids go to catholic schools for the most part. My chicago tough comment about the one who goes to public is a joke that I thought was obvious. I have no Twitter account or any other personally identifiable social media presence with which I choose to publicly share the reasons for my school and residential choices. So, yes, I would say I have little in common with what I described above.

That's what I hate about Bernstein. He has always said he hates blue collar people. But these tweets are him trying to act like the common struggling family. He's anything but that. His kids will have all of the advantages.

I don't begrudge Bernstein for having a rich Dad. Nor do I begrudge him have a 300k salary. He's earned that. I just don't want to hear him say that he and his kids go through the normal struggles like everybody else. Which is what he's trying to do. Because he doesn't. But I'm glad his kids got to live around brown people. That was great of Bernstein to give that to his kids. What a great Dad for making that decision. God forbid one of them marries a brown person, though. Then Bernstein will regret not living in the suburbs. It's all show with him. I know his true colors.

I agree with what both of you had to say. Also, I think the fundamental issue with Bernstein, is that it's hard to be an honest liberal/progressive person when deep down you think you're superior to everyone else.
