State trooper killed last week after being rammed on the tri-state by a wrong way driver . This is borderline unbelievable . From the SSC blog.

Dan Davies, the driver who police say rammed an Illinois State trooper’s squad car while driving the wrong way on the Tri-State tollway early Saturday morning, should not have been driving a car anywhere.

After all, officials of the Illinois Secretary of State’s Office say they cannot find any evidence Davies ever got a driver’s license.

Despite that fact, Davies was stopped by police dozens of times - receiving over 70 tickets - including repeated citations for driving without a license. Each time he was cited for having no license, a “suspension” was added to his record at the secretary of state’s office, which would make it more difficult for him to get a license, if he ever applied for one.

He also was arrested twice for drunk driving.
Preliminary reports also indicate he was ::suprise:: drunk again and tested positive for THC in his system. And guess who released him on an I-Bond just a few months ago?
After his November drunk driving arrest, Davies’ case was eventually transferred to Cook County Criminal Court, where he faced multiple charges of aggravated DUI. But in that case, he was granted a $3000 I-bond, meaning he had to post no cash, and he was never jailed - despite what authorities say was one of the worst driving records in the state of Illinois. And remember – he had no license in the first place.
Crimesha, Dart and Evans strike again. And along with his 70 moving violations, he had twenty-two other arrests for all sorts of violent and drug offenses for which he served a grand total of 53 days in jail.
A spokesman for Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx did not respond to NBC5 Investigates’ repeated inquiries about what position prosecutors took to try to keep Davies in custody.

The real blame lies with that fucking butterfly flapping its wings in the rainforest. Set off this whole chain of events.

Drove past the crash site yesterday. WB 94 just south of Lambs Farm. I cannot imagine how loaded one must be in order to get on an interstate going the wrong way. I hope I never find out.

And didn't the driver live in Cal City? What was he doing up near Libertyville?

I had just driven right by that area headed north an hour before the crash. Yeah, not sure how you don't realize you are going the wrong way.
Not sure if they determined what exit ramp he got on but if it wasn't the Lambs Farm one then you travel quite a while before you hit the next opportunity
to get on the wrong way.

You really can't have it both ways can you? Can't be all about not jailing non serious offenders then cry when the commit more crime. Sure this is an extreme example that should have been caught on to sooner. If that is your philosophy though there will always be things slipping through the cracks.

Horrible. Let's see who will be the first to excuse it.

C'mon Mike. This is different. This guy didn't get two speeding tickets or something. The Ibond and no jail time makes perfect sense for MANY minor offenses. When it comes to 70+ moving violations and multiple DUI's- among other offenses- its pretty clear that somebody like that is dangerous and should not be out on the streets. Not to mention that he never even had a drivers license!

I'm on from Willow to 120 every day....if I had to guess, he got on at, maybe 137...if he got on at Grand or 120, he would have had to have been going the wrong way on either one of those as well, or coming from the East

Yep as I mentioned this is an extreme outlier. My system would be much stricter overall but that doesn't surprise anyone.

Insert valid licence in order to turn on car?

Well you could laugh but they can temporarily put the breath things in for DUI offenders. So why not that or license card reader in new cars? Is there a car poll tax concern?

Yeah, I lived in Gurnee for a long time so that is what I was thinking too. Likely 137 as that is a long way from Gurnee but who knows. It is a shame either way.

I believe Kim Foxx has told her office not to prosecute driving without a license.

Continue on now and tell the class why that would be? Hint: immigration and other similar matters.

Any judge who saw this shitbag should have tossed him in prison, it's blatant disregard for the laws to keep driving like an asshole with no license. 12 years ago they made it a felony to drive on a suspended or revoked license.

As with gun laws, if the DA office does not chose to prosecute the laws do not matter.

The judges are as much of a problem as the prosecutor office, if I was judge and looked at a file like that.. I wouldn't sign off on the plea, ultimately the judge is the boss, they say yay or nay on any plea deal.
