I just saw a little "stat" that says Bryant does not have a well hit ball in his last 12AB over the last 5 days. Methinks the Cubs are gonna have a whole world of problems of Bryant's closer to last year than 2016 (or even his somewhat regressed 2017; cuz even if RBIs aren't an en vogue stat in the year of our Eloy 2019, there's still something to be said from dropping down ~30RBI in a season where you struck out less and walked more)

The other thing you notice is that Bryant scored a bunch of runs in 2016 (121) and 2017 (111) and that went sharply down last year. Obviously playing in ~100 games as opposed to ~150 factors into that, but if you look at the raw #s he walked 59 times in 102 games as opposed to those aforementioned #s being put up in 155 and 151 games respectively, so that means you go from.scoring a run in just over 2/3 of the games you play in to scoring a run in just over 1/2 of the games you play in. also his surge in walks + reduction in Ks in 2017 completely regressed (and thensome) in 2018, so his stats currently look like the guy peaked in his age 24 season.

If I were a cubs fan I'd be worried; the days of "the best farm system in baseball" are long gone and all of a sudden you have a costly old rotation with no real reinforcements flanking them, and it looks like there's a decent little chance your (offensive) franchise cornerstone is perma-crocked so you really gotta thank Bully Hendry for drafting Baez cuz that's the kind of draft pick Theo™®© woulda never made cuz he's a baseball zoomer who never learned that walks clog up the bases.

did anyone have the Cubs winning a playoff series or two this season? I mean, even if they were like 4-3 or something would you still look at this team and think they've got something for good teams in a 5/7 game series? You'd need a bare minimum of Lester having zero point zero dropoff + Darvish returning to proper beyond-sub-4-ERA + 200K format to even have a chance to hope your offense could hit aces beyond a very occasional solo HR!

I figured Yu would be a solid #3 starter and that the pen would have featured a few different arms than the same old shit. Since they did jack shit all offseason I expected them to really bolster the pen at the deadline and make a serious run.

Joe will be blamed but not now. In June the record will still be the reason but won’t be as glaring then it is pitching and errors mostly. It will be hidden in the larger sample.

That seems like a theoretically plausible scenario.

Joe Maddon is doing to Theo Epstein the same thing Ozzie Guillen did to Kenny Williams.

Theo gave Joe Carl Edwards, Jr, Theo gets Carl Edwards, Jr.

Kenny gave Ozzie Adam Dunn, Kenny got Adam Dunn.

Cubs turn things around and start their march toward a championship today. In October, we will be watching interviews of Theo and Joe saying they almost lost faith, but after that Saturday game in early April, they knew things would be okay.

as bad as last night was, we still scored 10 runs, and can still win 2 games in the series.

You sound like a sad, sad man. Don't do this to yourself.

The season is over.

The real seaosn is Theo vs Coach Gut Feeling.

This idea that Theo pushed in last seasons final press conference that the Cubs lacked urgency and that cost the Cubs a division always rang a little hollow with me. Consider in that same press conference Theo gently chided Maddon for using Morrow three consecutive days. Imagine a manager using a closer on 3 consecutive days, the horror! And on one of those days he threw just 2 pitches. You want the club to play with urgency but don't you dare use the closer 3 days in a row. The hypocricy.

When the Cubs were winning, the less was more approach was lauded. American Legion days, what a concept. Now the Cubs need a hard ass manager.
Theo wants to push thru his acolytes in the media is that Joe has lost control. But the real issue is that the Cubs won 95 games last year and your 3 prized free agents picked up last year, over $40 million spent last year, contributed nothing down the stretch. Your best player, Bryant, was a shell of his former self last year. You can make the case that last year was Maddon's best coaching job and the majority of Cub problems are on Theo/Jed.

Yeah bad move by him. He said that thinking he’s Teflon really smart guy. Instead he underestimated the wrath of Cub fandom.

Watching pregame with Kaplan and DeJesus. Reporting no joking around or small talk during BP and warm-ups on the Cubs side tonight. Each guy doing their thing and going straight into the clubhouse. It's all business according to the Kapman.
