you work your way through a few different topics to find a connection with someone in a new conversation. Then you use that point of connection to expand to other areas of commonality. Sometimes it ends up being a nice conversation and you have met a new person who you like.

But "what do you do" is a shitty topic. I don't want to hear about your fuckin' job unless you're an astronaut or a big league ballplayer. Otherwise I agree with you. It helps to have a lot of knowledge about a lot of stuff, as I do. I also like to find out where someone grew up. I usually know at least a fact or two about whatever place it is. You could test me, but I'd be accused of using Google. Next time we meet in person we can try it out.

Man, I can’t get over the fact that I walked the same hallways as JORR. It gives me a whole nother perspective on my time there. Although much of it is a blur because I smoked weed on a daily basis back then.

We had a very long conversation the first time we met. First conversations with ladies are different altogether. All you have to do is point them in the right direction and they will willingly talk about themselves. When they slow down just give some kind of acknowledgement that you were listening by referencing something from earlier in the conversation and off they go again.

I have a little recollection of the first time we talked, I was pretty hammered. I'm usually not the one to talk about myself I usually ask questions but I could see me rambling on and that situation. You're very quiet, not unsocial or anything but not what you'd expect. It's even hard to tell if you're having fun even if people know you're not having a bad time.

I usually try to ask people about things I know that they're interested in or general conversations. Like I know the Derby is coming up I might ask somebody about that or Summers coming up and I might ask if they have vacation plans or something like that. Sports or kids depending on the person etc.
