Your taste buds are broken. Culvers sucks and Portillo's fries are great.

If you actually call Portillo's frozen-same-as-the-rest-of-them fries "great", you musn't have eaten fries anywhere else.

Culvers is for kids. Once you're 12, you realize it sucks.

Man, it's crazy how people can disagree about food. It's all objective!

you have the taste buds of a six year old. Their "fries" are like the frozen ones my grandma used to make in the oven. Ironically, Culver's are the same style but not quite as terrible, but still bad.

Right, me and the several people in this thread and people all over who love their fries. WE are wrong and you are correct.

There is no such thing as inedible fries by the way. The worst french fry is still good. Culvers fries are fine.

Oh look another thread where a bunch of people yell about how overrated a place is because it is in general considered better than other similar large options.

Let's not get crazy. Burger King has had like 10 variations of terrible fries in my lifetime.

Culver’s fries? When there are cheese curds on the menu? Culver’s was fantastic the first few times I had it but I don’t enjoy it as much. Probably had it too often, don’t eat fast food much anymore.

I like Portillo’s beef and cheddars. It’s about all I order with the occasional polish or chili dog (which I immediately regret). It’s an every other month at most purchase but I’m happy to see them open in Peoria and opening in Davenport. Beats most local fast food options.

It is clearly the best large Italian beef and hot dog place. It is much closer with burgers but a lot of places do burgers well.

There are better small scale operations but they don't have to cook on a massive scale.

It's amazing how BK manages to fuck up their fries over and over and over again. Their current fry is better than the last few, but they still suck. I always substitute the onion rings at BK.

If you are over 12 years old and doing fries at Culver's, you're doing it wrong. Cheese curds FTW.

Portillos is fine for what it is. Jorr describes it best, its a good baseline place. Its pretty good for standard fare like beef, burgers, dogs, and the fries are pretty good. There is a lot better out there, and certainly a lot worse.

a lot of stupidity in this post. No such thing as bad French fries? WTF, have you been to Burger King? Those are the very definition of inedible.

Culver's fries also suck and are pretty close to inedible.

Portillo's fries are solid for a frozen fry, but in no way compare to places like Red Hot Ranch who are making their fries fresh each order.

Yeah...I don't eat a whole lot of BK...maybe when we go visit my inlaws in Michigan because, for some inexplicable reason, it's their favorite breakfast place...which is horrible when there's a Bob Evans right next door...but I digress. I got food poisoning from the BK on 45 just north of 120 about 3 years ago, and I can't stomach most of their food anymore.

Let me set the record straight on Portillo's as I often have to do around here. It's a solid place, good for a massive fast food place, but I can guarantee that anything you can order at a Portillo's you can find a better tasting version at a small Ma and Pa hot dog/beef/burger place located within 5 miles of the Portillo's you are at.

People are just too lazy and scared to put the effort in to find those places, would rather just settle with what they know as long as it's "good enough".
