Al's and Buona, easily. At least I know they will be properly cooked and edible.

The last time I ate at Portillo's, I ordered an Italian sausage with mozz. The bun was dry and not toasted, the sausage was so overcooked it was literally crunchy, and they put shredded mozz which wasn't melted at all. Horrible.

It is clearly the best large Italian beef and hot dog place. It is much closer with burgers but a lot of places do burgers well.

There are better small scale operations but they don't have to cook on a massive scale.

Let me set the record straight on Portillo's as I often have to do around here. It's a solid place, good for a massive fast food place, but I can guarantee that anything you can order at a Portillo's you can find a better tasting version at a small Ma and Pa hot dog/beef/burger place located within 5 miles of the Portillo's you are at.

People are just too lazy and scared to put the effort in to find those places, would rather just settle with what they know as long as it's "good enough".

I've never gotten the sausage. There are many things I would rather have. However, to say I'm trolling saying Portillos is better than Al's and Buona but then to say that Portillos is so bad you can't eat it is pretty funny. At least you gave some names.

I do like Als at least. It's probably closer than I said before but I'll still take Portillos. There is no way Buona is better.

I do like their fries and their hot dogs are decent. I do not care for their burgers or beefs.

Ya know...I haven't gone to Sammies in a couple of years...I wasn't a fan of their beef the last time I had it.

Culver's fries also suck and are pretty close to inedible.

Portillo's fries are solid for a frozen fry, but in no way compare to places like Red Hot Ranch who are making their fries fresh each order.

True story about Portillos. When my mom was very young she lived in Lincolnwood. She was neighbors with Dick Portillo. He used to have a little hot dog cart that he pushed around the neighborhood. My grandparents and all the other neighbors used to make fun of him and his "crappy little hot dog push cart business"

Between that and my dad laughing at his cousin when he started Lettuce Entertain You, my immediate family has not done too well in the restaurant business.

Buono is disgusting. Portillo's is ok, not bad, close to good. Al's is great, the only one that stacks up with the small ma and pa beef shops.

Just stopped by to say putting cheese on a beef or sausage is a bad move.
