I really think it will be someone in the draft. The perfect scenario would be that no K get drafted because the Bears have to be the most attractive location for an UDFA K

They should give him to the Bears for free because they feel bad for fleecing Pace in the (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky trade.

I would give them a 7th next year as the Bears are going to be chock full of late round picks in that draft and I don't value the one year option to pay a kicker franchise money very valuable.

I think the question is whether Gould would be willing to renegotiate. Say a deal that is $3M this year, $4M next year, and a team option for $5M for 2021.

If that is the case, I'd probably give up a high 6th for him, or trade a late 5th for a Gould and the right to for the Bears to swap 6ths next year.

If Gould is coming here, he is doing so because its better for him and his family situation. If he wants the money, he would stay in SF. That said, he needs to take a hearty discount to return to the Bears.

Also, he doesn't do kickoffs.

I don’t know you can immediately renegotiate a tag?

Is it really that much more difficult to kick in Chicago?

I was at that game, in the north end zone. Hard to forget that one.

I remember that game. That was a fun one. Chris Berman is still awful though.

Kevin Butler realizes Robbie Gould made his name in Chicago, right? I'm pretty sure Robbie Gould, the guy who became one of the most accurate kickers in league history after spending years in Chicago, knows what he's getting into if he comes back to Chicago.

Seems like Butler doesn't want Gould cutting further into his legacy.

Brian Baschnagel should be happy that his legacy as #84 is still intact.

Exactly. To have a potential damaged legacy be the reason not to return to Chicago as a legendary Bear is cynical and nonsensical. It's also stupid after the stand-out season he had last year in San Francisco.

We got our first glimpse at Matt Nagy’s kicking competition for the #Bears at rookie minicamp. With the entire team watching, each kicker had one shot from 43 yards out — the same distance that Cody Parkey missed from against the Eagles in the playoffs. 6 misses.

oof. I thought Baron might be the guy they were targeting after signing him as a UDFA.

I'd feel comfortable with Fry. He's kicked well professionally and at the college level.

I was listening to Gabriel a couple of weeks ago. He gave a very strong indication that Gould will call the 49ers bluff and walk away from football rather than play on the west coast. I believe he talked with Robbie who told him it was a quality of life consideration with his family living in chicago year round and that he was very insistent.

It certainly seems like the Bears are not panicked by the kicking situation so maybe they know what is up. They are practically leaving the position open for him.

I was hoping Casey Bednarski would survive. Prior to Parkey's mishaps, my son watched him make a 63 yarder IN GAME in Mankato, MN. D II but still.....that's worth considering.

Fuck Gould, I do not want him regardless of how good he's been since he left. He's being a petulant bitch. I don't believe for a second that Mr. "I need to feed my family" would sit out.

Gould has also made over $30million just from NFL salary alone. If his family life means that much to him, I give him all the credit in the world if he walks away.

i wouldnt blame him if he chooses family over NFL. if he was smart with his money he and his family should be fine (i forgot his dumb comment on this topic previously when he was a bear)

that being said if he holds out til week 1, he's only gotta work 4 months to get $5M... so it would be tough to turn that down
