That doesn't make much sense. If you can't get beefs where you live then why would you go to Portillo's when you are back in Illinois when you can go find a much better beef at plenty of places in town? Why would you settle for mediocre if you don't have to and it's something you don't get to have that often?

To be clear, I don’t seek out Italian beefs. That’s the other person I travel with, and she specifically wants Portillos. Idk what to tell you. I think it’s a great meal, but it’s too much red meat for me nowadays.

I’m more of a local pizza connoisseur.

I think we need a list of these local places.

Hey now, RB's has its own niche. Their curly fries might be the best fast food fry out there. Their reuben is good...hell, it's all good there.

You just can't compare it to Italian beef joints.

I've never been able to drink iced tea. Although I've learned later in life to be able to drink iced coffee if I put enough vanilla and milk into it.

But I didn't grow up in a tea-drinking family, I didn't have one relative on either side of the family who drank tea, and that's about 35 people.

I gave Culver’s a shot tonight because of this thread. The spicy chicken is phenomenal. Better than Wendy’s. Perfect amount of heat. Now, the fries. Thick and bland. No salt or ketchup could save them. To say these are better than portillos is downright insane.

Yeah, Culver's fries are rather crappy, but I don't care much for any fast food fries.

I don't get the love for Portillo's fries. They're just plain crinkle-cut fries.

Besides, Culvers is a mandatory cheese curds outfit.

The fry is not meant to be a particularly elaborate side dish. The best fries are kept simple and salted right. Portillos does it right.

They sold gyros for a while... maybe tastes like a gyro in the Topeka market, but oh boy.

Also, to be fair to Portillos, it shouldn’t be compared to Al’s as much as it should be compared to other regional favorites like In N Pit, Bojnagles, etc. it’s much better than all those places.

Get Portillo's fries well done, then thank me later.

Have to order them well done, then you at least have an outside shot at them not being soggy. Portillo's fries suck. Onion rings all day.

Give me a place with fresh cut fries, then we'll talk about quality fries. Everything else, you can get in a bag in the freezer at the store.

That describes most fast food and a good deal of restaurant food.

you gotta go cheese curds at Culver's, the fries are inedible even doused in ketchup.
