What would your paper or broadcast lead with?

Actual news of consequence maybe?

Was it a story when the Taliban blew up the Buddhas or when the Croats blew up the bridge in Mostar?

Religious or not, the loss of world heritage is a worthy top story.

RR has no problem with the destruction being a story. He just doesn't want to hear how rich people are giving money to rebuild it.

I think that obscene money and wealthy celebrities are all the media want to force feed us. That we've lost the ability/need/desire to demand more suggests just how sad we are as a society at large.

And Dolphin, "heritage" being mourned like this seems to me to be a half step away from idolatry.

I think the days of demanding more from media are gone. I do not think there are many core consumers or any particular media brands. I think the scream the latest in an attempt to attract fireflies for a moment and then try again.

Taking time to build and serve a core audience etc will get you fired by next quarter.

You can and should be able to appreciate NDC without any reference to religion.

I kid you not, I'm starting to really wonder about that. It's really starting to seem like next to nothing.

I do, as much as any other beautiful building. I can also appreciate what it was built to inspire. But, the overwrought stuff I can do without.

Fucking CPD is suppressing evidence of a possible serial killer that has been active for close to 10 years. Now that should be news.

Asshole brother in law, invites another family member to Easter Dinner at my house without asking, and proceeds to claim he is not coming because his kid is "sick". This isn't the 1st time he's played this card. Fuck you asshole!

At 5:50am I get a call from my dad. I pick up the phone and no answer. So I call him back and he's tells me that my best friend's dad called him (butt dialed apparently) so now, time to wake my friend, find out that it's an accident. Both of our days have been trash as a result.

Good outcome, but who sleeps after that for awhile?

So my cousin (who is like a sister to me) is getting married July 6th...at the Planetarium...annoyed, but not my complaint. She has my daughter as her flower girl, and one of my other cousin's sons as a ring bearer. We've known all along that it's an adult only reception, but as we were told, except for the kids in the wedding. We had talked about my niece in Michigan coming over to stay and babysit the kids later in the night after dinner as we have a room reserved in the block of rooms for the wedding...we knew and informed them that wasn't happening as she's going on a family vacation with her parents and brother before he leaves for college in the fall, and they've scheduled it for that week. This was communicated to the bride to be back around Christmas. We've been working under the assumption that after dinner, when my kid got tired, one of us would head back to the room with the kid.

So we got the invitation in the mail. My wife was filling out the return card, and there wasn't mention of the kids' meal or anything. So my wife texts my cousin and is met with, "well, the kids are going back to the hotel after the ceremony, because your niece is going to watch them". Um, what?!?!

So what are the kids going to eat, was asked...met with "we'll make sure they have something". Um, okay. Who's babysitting, then? "we're still working on that". How are they getting back to the hotel from the ceremony? No response.

Logistically, if there is an acceptable babysitter found, whichever of us goes to take her back to the hotel will miss cocktail hour and likely dinner. All under the guise of doing this so the parents can enjoy the reception.

I wouldn't be pissed if this had been known up front. We would have already had plans and logistics in place. I'm not even all that pissed that we have to hustle her out after the ceremony.

What absolutely has me just pissed to the point that I don't give a damn if I'm even there, is that, as reinforced by the bride, my girly 4 year old has been pumped for this by being told that she gets to wear a dress, and walk down the aisle, be in charge of her younger cousin the ring bearer, then get to be in pictures, eat dinner, and dance a little before bed, and won't stop talking about all of that...is now reduced to a prop for a bunch of fucking wedding photos.

That is some mighty poor handling on the bride/groom's part. If its an adults only reception, then it should be an adults only reception regardless of who is in the wedding party or not. It would have just made things so much easier all around.

Reflect your feeling on the check you are giving them.

I am sort of having the same problem for a wedding come July. And the reception and Church are not close to each other.

Yeah...we did a combo shower/wedding gift (bought them like $400 pots and pans) so that's done.

We were talking about just RSVP-ing yes for both of us, and if we don't come up with something, oh well.

I don't do weddings so this is something that i'm not really privy to....

wtf is going on at a adults only wedding reception? is this a normal thing? are they consummating the marriage on the dance floor? Alcohol IV's at each table?

Hard pass. I find wedding receptions about as boring and awful as can be. a total waste of my saturday night. especially in the summer. but the one thing that gets me over when i'm occasionally forced to go is my little girls having a good time dancing in their favorite dresses.

yeah i get the open bar part..but most weddings i've attending with an open bar there were kids all over.

AND I get that kids can be annoying and there is this growing trend of younger people despising children, but i just didn't know if this was a new thing or not.

I cannot think of one time in the 21st century that I have just shown up at a business without knowing what their hours of operation were, roughly, at least. And yet I have people, young people, not septuagenarians, trundling int my place every time the door is unlocked for deliveries or whatever, seeing that all the chairs and stools are up, all the front lights are off, and yelling "Helloooo!! Are you open?"
