Did you know the woman who voices Lamb Chip takes the puppet everywhere with her? My coworker met her in a hotel bar.

I thought everybody agreed 20 years ago we'd trade some privacy for some security. No? Let's not revise history like we did with the crack epidemic. 30 years later, all of a sudden, Clinton's the bad guy when BLACK LEADERSHIP was screaming for getting dealers off the streets. No,no, don't crap me.

I don't think a lot of us agreed to it, but it definitely happened, yes.

Is there an issue here with the Feds providing this information to a private company?

Anyone who didn’t agree with trading freedom for security was supporting terrorism.

I dunno man, but the horse left the barn a long time ago. I warn people about unintended consequences all the time and no one cares until it's way too late.

I think most people on this board would have been against it at the time. If there's one issue that is usually close to a consensus, it's the overreach of government in non-economic issues. I doubt anyone here was a fan of the Patriot Act.

But you are probably correct that the horse left the barn.

The Feds outsource loads of their duties to private enterprise b/c it is "more efficient" and "saves taxpayers." FAA now lets Boeing oversee its own safety regulations. Drug companies. Meat companies inspecting their own meat. What could possibly go wrong? EFFICIENCY man, get with it!

MANY on this board as late as 2010 were absolutely 100% behind the patriot act.

My sentiments exactly. I don't agree with the privacy overreaches but it's too late now and I doubt any amount of public outrage would stop the government from getting what they want.

The founders wanted a limited government for a reason. That horse has left the barn also

People wanted it. I don’t think some of you young guys remember how scared and vulnerable people were. Do you remember the airspace silence around Chicago. How quiet it was except for occasional fighters.

Over corrected to be sure looking back and time to readjust maybe. But that fall was a bad time.

Doesn’t the government already have a database of faces if you have a drivers license or passport?

Yup.

I think the issue here is that the government is sharing this database with private companies.

You have zero expectation of privacy at an airport.

Running your face against a database(a search), has nothing to do with being video recorded.

Uh, no shit, let me say it again. You have no reasonable expectation of any privacy at an airport. All of your possessions are subject to search with no probable cause, your person is subject to search with no probable cause, your can be detained at an airport with no probable cause.

Like I said twice before, you have no reasonable expectation of privacy whatsoever at a US airport. You don’t like it, don’t fly commercial.

I think you're missing the point. The issue isn't the airport. It's the government maintaining a database of faces.

That can't be the point because there is no 4th Amendment prohibition against the government maintaining a database.

Face recognition software is a game changer. I think it's fairly obvious they know every time you walk into an airport as long as you've flown at least a few times at the same airport.

This is what happens when your face shows up on their cameras.
1st time: They simply mark that you were among the pool of 10,000 people flying in that airport around that time of day.
2nd time: They compare all of the people who were flying that first time, and all the people flying now, and maybe 10 of them are the same.
3rd time: Repeat step 2, but it's likely there are only 1 or 2 people.
4th time: Your face is now clearly linked to who you are as the only chance would be another person having flown on the same 4 days as you at the same airport. This is only really possible if you are a family flying together, and one would assume in most cases they can get a good deal of certainty based on age and gender information.

No picture or consent needed. Anywhere could do it, but knowing who is going through security with their information is needed to know your information.

I don't think anyone has delusions of reform (until the next revolution), but I will say that I do find it weird when people mock the Bill of Rights or are gleeful to proclaim that the government HAS A RIGHT to surveil all its citizens. At best, it is a necessary evil to combat things like terrorism (and even that is usually bullshit). But what ideology is pro-government surveillance? It seems like a bizarre, contrarian position to hold.

Yeah. Blah, blah blah original intent, blah, blah, blah technology of modern guns, blah, blah, blah, there's nothing we can do. Rinse and repeat.
