I don't think anyone has delusions of reform (until the next revolution), but I will say that I do find it weird when people mock the Bill of Rights or are gleeful to proclaim that the government HAS A RIGHT to surveil all its citizens. At best, it is a necessary evil to combat things like terrorism (and even that is usually bullshit). But what ideology is pro-government surveillance? It seems like a bizarre, contrarian position to hold.

It's probably true that face recognition surveillance in the streets will knock the shit out of crime and also lead to easy capture and conviction. Playing devils advocate, that's a huge upside, isn't it?
