we stayed on property and I literally started booking fast passes the first day we were eligible 60 days out and we STILL couldnt get fast passes on a couple of the highest profile attractions. those fast passes are GONE almost immediately.

Yup. Stayed in Cape Canaveral at one of the resorts with a waterslide and lazy river, etc, with my oldest when she was a baby. We are talking about going back down next spring and staying for a few days now that the girls are older and totally into the water, etc.

One thing we loved doing as kids was in the middle of the day going on the People Mover...or Tomorrow Land Transit or whatever they call it now. Its not really a 'ride' per se as it has no theme, but its a little tram that runs over the top of Tomorrowland. My parents would sneak ice cream bars up there with us, and we would eat those on the ride. It was a great break from the crowds and sun, as you got to sit and relax without really feeling like you were wasting time because you actually were on a ride. I've probably been on that dopey thing 50+ times and don't think I have ever waited longer than two or three minutes to board it.

We just brought our kids for the first time this year and they were 17 and 15! i totally get wanting to bring your little ones to the experience but i have to be honest, while we were there I saw all the people with strollers and kids melting down and crying and stressed out parents and we kept telling ourselves thank GOD we didn't put ourselves through that. And you know, i think our KIDS enjoyed the fact they they were old enough to go their own way and enjoy the parks to the fullest and not have to hang on to us the whole time.

couldn't agree more, that ride is a nice reprieve. There are some others that are indoors like the Carousel of Progress where you at least get a few minutes in a comfortable seat in the AC to chill out.

It sounds like you already have your accommodations booked, but I also must stress, either save up and stay in one of the monorail serviced hotels like the Floridian or Polynesian... or stay offsite. I found the experience getting taking a "disney bus" to the the parks, awful. Crowed, too many stops. Last time we got a cheap condo in Kissimme that was closer than the non premium Disney hotels..we literally were there in 5 minutes.

The Monsters Inc laugh factory is probably better for little kids IMO. Same deal with sitting inside in the AC for 30minutes though. Its actually not a mind numbing little kids show either.

i agree wholeheartedly with this. we had to take a few of the Disney buses and as magical as they try to make everything, a crappy bus ride is a crappy bus ride. Definitely give the monorail resorts a close look, they are worth it. Animal Kingdom and Hollywood are off the monorail grid though. The new skyline services are going to open this year i think that are going to make those two parks more accessible.

Make sure you do some inland fishing in a pond or two by the hotel, saltwater fishing is okay but nothing like being by yourself and having 8 lb bass hit top waters.

Fast passes are a must. Download the Disney Parks App.

Since you are staying off property, I'll save all my on-property tips. But, I recommend parking at least 40 minutes before rope drop. Also, when you enter any of the parks, go to the left. Most people (according to Disney research and our keys to the kingdom tour guide) tend to head to the right.

Also, for anyone who stays on property, the Epcot resort area is my favorite. You can avoid buses to Epcot and Hollywood Studios. Buses to MK and AK parks in the AM (before rope drop) are pretty quick.
The Magic Kingdom area is pretty great as well, but you have to bus to AK or Hollywood Studios.

The gondolas were still under construction when we were there in December. They DO NOT HAVE AIR CONDITIONING.

Franks suggestion of going back to hotel for a nap is the best piece of advice so far. Our daughter was about that age when we went the 1st time and it made a world of difference...especially if you want to take in the evening fireworks (highly recommended).

We just took our 3 year old here. It sounds like you've already made some decisions so some of these things you won't like to hear based on my experience.

We stayed in a Disney resort. I would NEVER consider staying offsite. It is remarkably better. If I was staying offsite, I would probably just go to the Magic Kingdom one day and find other stuff to do the rest of the time. Virtually everything is built to give priority to those who are staying on site. Extra magic hours. Better fastpass priority. Driving in the lines are long if you get there at the start. Not to mention the food package. If you really want to stay offsite too, then I would recommend a few days staying on resort property and then a few days offsite where you don't go to Disney at all. Your experience staying on site will be FAR SUPERIOR if you stay in their resorts. They have them at all price levels too so it isn't like you have to spend tens of thousands of dollars on your trip.

However, with a young kid like that, this is what I would do depending on the number of days in order.
2 days at the Magic Kingdom. More on this later.
1 day at Hollywood Studios. Go to Toy Story Land, do the Disney Jr. Dance Party, and then some other kid friendly stuff.
1 day at Animal Kingdom. The safari is really cool. Keep in mind this place is much hotter than the rest of the Disney properties and it is a long day. I've actually been to Animal Kingdom twice on two vacations, one with a kid and one without, and I think I've only seen 50% of the park because by about noon you are so hot you just want to go home.
1 day at Epcot. I would almost consider another day at Magic Kingdom here because there really is very little for kids at Epcot. Epcot is a cool park for older kids or adults but for kids under about 8 it's going to be the least memorable thing they do.
The rest of the time you have left at Magic Kingdom, and maybe the day you would have went to Epcot anyways. If you do decide to do anything but Magic Kingdom, I can give you some more tips on each.

As for Magic Kingdom, a fastpass is a must just like in most places. Get there for the park open and walk around main street and then head right to the carousel since it has no fastpass. You are going to get bad times for the fastpass because you are staying offsite(on site people get to pick a month ahead of you) but you should be able to get rides. Our kid loved: Dumbo, The Teacups, Aladdin's magic carpet. If you think your kid can handle rides where you are in the dark then Peter Pan and It's A Small World are good. Eat at "Be Our Guest" and also get a Cinnamon Roll from Gaston's Tavern. Frontierland can get good for kids too. The boat ride is good and requires no fast pass. Use the app on your phone to buy the food as the lines everywhere can be really long. Get a dole whip to cool off since you will be hot depending on how long you stay. Bring a stroller into the park. You will need it.

Do not waste your time fishing. You can fish anywhere. You can't spend time with your daughter at a truly magical place that will be one of the coolest experiences of her young life. Those memories last forever. When she is 16 and driving her car away will you remember the time you took her to Disney or the time you caught a fish inland in Florida?

It depends on what resort you were staying at. The bus service for our resort was outstanding. There are moderate resorts that only have one stop so it goes very fast.

As I said before though, you give up a lot of stuff if you stay offsite. If you want to go for the whole trip then stay onsite.

I was at Disney as a kid, I don't really remember shit.. I do remember fishing down there on that vacation in the ocean and inland.
