I was in the DMV 3 weeks ago on king drive, they don't even give you a license when you leave, they mailed it to me because the broke ass state doesn't have the software. I don't have the new logo either.

You literally have to spend an hour getting all these docs together, then you have to haul your ass to the understaffed DMV AGAIN, wait god knows how long that is, drop another $30-50 again, even if you just renewed two months ago. I get the doc requirements are out of Illinois hands, but they should have been up to speed much faster so people could have knocked it out then.

Hardly a mild inconvenience.

That means they will need to get to a Secretary of State branch office with additional documents. Ditto for people who don't drive but use a state ID. Most people probably have the documents readily at hand, but several are required. They include:

• a passport, birth certificate, green card or certain other citizenship documents;

• a Social Security card, a W-2 form, pay stub or certain tax documents containing your name and Social Security number;

• two documents showing proof of residency, such as a utility bill, bank statement, insurance policy or other official correspondence; and

• something with your signature, which could be a signed driver's license or credit card, a canceled check, a Social Security card or certain other official records.

In addition, if your last name is different from the name on these documents, you'll need to bring a marriage certificate or divorce decree.

The card will cost the same as your current driver's license. But if your license expires more than a year from the time you apply for the upgrade, called REAL ID, the state will charge just a $5 correction fee to upgrade the card.

1) the concern about amount of time to gather docs. You must either live under a bridge and/or not have a computer. On the other hand I can easily print this stuff off from websites and grab passport, birth cert, ss card and tax returns from file cabinet drawer, on which my printer sits. 5 minutes max.

2) DMV: I find Schaumburg to be VERY speedy, especially midweek. Go there.

3) Cost: If i read correctly if you just renewed your DL then it is just $5 more. I will be happy to contribute to your GOFUNDME.
