Looks like control issues. Even in his good starts he only goes 5 innings. Doesn't seem like he is ready to make 30 starts in the big leagues.

Doesn't have to. He may get rocked when he comes up but so what? Most young starting pitchers get rocked early on. It isn't like they have anyone better right now. Let him learn and see if he can figure things out. The pitching in this system is weak over-all. Nothing to do about it but watch and see what happens, hoping someone or two can emerge. I still think Fulmer has a chance. Nova has to leave the starting rotation also. He's a home-run waiting to happen.

You need him to be able to pitch at least five innings in a major league game. If he can’t do that there is no point in bringing him up.

I am sure he can pitch over five innings. The kid is very young and they are bringing him up slow is all. They did the exact same ting when Sale came up. In fact, they made him a reliever his first year. Hahn and company made this mess by totally fucking up the rebuild of the pitching staff. The horses have left the barn and Reinny is cheap. The veteran bozos that they brought in were just another example of trying to squeeze some mileage out of worn out nags instead of actually bringing in some young yet veteran pitching talent.

It's that run he gave up last inning that kills me. He should have nailed that inning down with two outs. As it is, he's lucky they only got one run. At some point, he's gonna have to learn to do this--for the runs, obviously, and for his damn pitch count.
