The Bears drafting strategy is odd, but whatever... it has been pretty good lately.

Fast is overrated if you’re James Jett and that’s all you have.. it’s not overrated if it’s one of many assets

Of course but “not fast” is a dumb knock on this guy. Is Josh Jacobs “not fast”?

There’s mixed scouting reports out on him as a receiver. I haven’t done a lot of reading/video watching on him so it’s hard for me to say too much right now..

..that said, fast or slow they need a back that fits the system they run and I have to trust for now that David Montgomery is that guy. No way Pace didn’t watch film with Nagy and get his input about this.

And as I stated in my post before this one it’s a little irrelevant I guess if he’s fast or slow if he’s a good fit for the offense we run. Unfortunately Howard wasn’t, despite being a pretty good back.

You certainly cleared up how valuable “not fast” is as a description in dismissing it with the consensus best RB in the class.

What are you so upset about bud? You guys just signed the best Saftey in the entire NFL over the last few years, you should be celebrating

I’m not upset. That’s a strange response to me disagreeing with “not fast” being a reason to dislike the pick, especially considering it’s not really true relative to his peers.

Not bad. He runs differently than Howard seems ‘quicker’ if not faster..

Not faster, but I think cuttier for sure. Seems like an average type RB. I think I would have rather they just picked D and taken whoever was left at RB in the fourth -- not sure there would be that big of a drop off.

EDIT: But I am forgetting the compensation picks that come in between.

Ok.. so RB is out of the way. So does Pace go with a need with the next pick, or best player available?

‘Cuttier’ -I like it.

Are there any pass rushers worth taking a flyer on with the next pick? That might be a safe bet for where Pace will go next..

He's definitely shifty for 222 lbs. The Kareem Hunt comp is fairly decent on video and on paper. Maybe they want him to drop upward of ten pounds and add more acceleration. Although at 222 his combine numbers are very similar to Hunt's already.

I just dont understand the RB moves in general this offseason. I actually liked the Mike Davis signing so I dont really see how somehow Nagy makes this work given what we saw last year with the confusion surrounding the ground game. That's a crowded room even before you factor in Patterson as a gadget.

Mike Davis is good. Montgomery could be very good. They needed another back besides Davis. Cohen functionally basically plays a different position than those two. It was a very good pick.

Relax tiger...I like the pick..already the best RB in the NFC North

Yeah, I just don't understand why you would basically give up a bunch of picks for a guy who will be lucky to be Jordan Howard. I don't get drafting runningbacks high, either.

But like NME said, they deserve the benefit of the doubt for now.

Montgomery isn't a burner but he's faster than Jordan Howard....Jordan Howard is really, really slow

Very odd. The Mack trade is the only reason to trust Pace. Running backs are easy to find.

Jordan Howard was rated a better prospect coming out of college (by scouts not named Farvefan) and pretty much all of his stats Bear that out...

https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/jordan-howard-1.html
https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/david-montgomery-1.html

http://www.nfl.com/draft/2016/profiles/jordan-howard?id=2555418
https://www.nfl.com/prospects/david-montgomery?id=32194d4f-4e48-7374-a044-7fb197b6b501

I think the Bears should have kept Howard, filled a position of greater need and/or value with the 87th pick and built depth with the picks they gave away.
