That was a great game that I still remember to this day. Ricky Guitierez scored the winning run on a crazy first to second/3rd to home double run down and the Cubs won in a comeback.

Edit: Found the clip of it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=55yDuBKdjE8

I thought about it afterward that people would think I was just doing it because of the ejection to be funny, but it really was a great game.

Best reg season series:

Cubs Cards Sep 2003 Cubs win 4 of a 5

Prior shuts down Cards in Game 1 (131 pitches) for a 7-0 win
Cubs pass Cards in standings (for good) with a Sosa walk off in the 15th inning of Game 2
Game 4 Baker and LaRussa scream at each other from dugout after Haren and Clement exchange hbps

It was the real life sequel to LaRussas 3 nights in August book.

For the old timers. White Sox fight with the Yankees. Walt Dropo beating the shit out of Enos Slaughter with Whitey Ford hanging onto his leg. Jungle Jim Rivera tackling Yogi Berra. Great photo of Slaughter with his uniform torn and bleeding looking for his cap which was actually backwards on his head.

Fight started when Art Ditmar buzzed Larry Doby with a pitch. The ball got away and Ditmar came to cover the plate and Doby cold cocked him. Moose Skowron went after Doby and Dropo took him on. Enos Slaughter then tried Dropo on for size and got pounded for it. Dropo was awesome in that fight. After things started to cool down, Billy Martin went after Doby and Doby had the best of it before being separated. Doby was really a bad ass back then.

This was back when there was still a lot of racism in baseball. Slaughter hated black players his entire career.

Can someone explain why anyone would rate “the Sandburg game” ahead of playoff games? It was a June game and the Cardinals finished 12 games behind the Cubs. I get the symbolic significance, but it has to be the most overrated game in Chicago of the last 50 years.

How about the game where the ambulance drove into Wrigley field to take off hee seop choi against the Yankees in the early 2000s? I was in the crowd that stood and chanted HEE SEOP CHOI HEE SEOP CHOI HEE SEOP CHOI for the only time in recorded human history.

Another surreal time @ Wrigley was on a Friday afternoon around 2002-04 where there was talk of another work stoppage heading into that Fri-Sun series vs the cardinals, so a lot of Cubbies fans bailed on the game, leaving Wrigley field overrun with THE BEST FANS IN BASEBALL™®©. Not only was the crowd cheering like it was a cardinals home game, but during the 7th inning stretch it was unmistakably "root root root for the cardinals!!" - - that's something you'll prolly never see again.

That 12-11 comeback yesterday has got to be up there now. Just about everything happened in that game. Losing a home run to a fluke rule. Losing 8-1 and taking the lead 11-10, losing the lead again and then Anderson winning it with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. Amazing game.

Yeah it wasnt a fluke rule so much as boneheaded baserunning, but it all worked out in the end.

Pshaw. Timmy was just setting us up for a dramatic ending. If you think about it, it's really no different from Baudelaire's concept of "springing up," where a person descends into some sort of dissolution only to enjoy rapid redemption. Dostoevsky was also a fan of such redemption. Can you argue with them muthafuckas?

Your opinion. I think it was one of the most interesting and exciting games I have seen in my lifetime. A game, to me, doesn't have to be well played, or to mean a great deal, Just be exciting and interesting. This game had it all.

Ever read a baseball rule book? Its almost as bad as a golf rule book. I would guarantee you that no major league coach or manager has told his players not to pass anyone up on the bases, let alone on a home run. It really is a stupid rule on an out of the park home run. The other thing that complicates this stuff is the entire appeal/replay situation. This probably would never have been called if the instant replay shit didn't happen. The replay pretty much complicates normal actions on the field of play. Here we had a runner on first deciding to tag up on first thinking that the ball would be caught. Now the guy who hit the ball sees the ball go over the fence and sees the umpire signal home-run so he circles the bases for a home-run. The runner on first doesn't see the ball go over the fence so he is tagging up to go to second.

I say that this is a very stupid rule on an out of the park home-run. If you are going to give a hitter first base on an intentional walk without throwing any pitches, they why not just give the hitter a home-run without having to run the bases? A home-run should be a home-runand not mickey mouse it up with this kind of crap.

If there is blame going to be passed out on this freak thing, it should be leveled at the first base coach. He is responsible for directing the runner on first and stopping the hitter from proceeding past the guy on first. It was up to Boston to take charge of that. I think that Anderson was blameless in that entire thing. He went back to first knowing that if he got to second on a fly ball, he was the potential lead run in the game. That was a good hustle play on his part.
