theon's plight was handled a lot better in the books, because we got an insight into theon's mind while it was happening. in the show it came off as gratuitous and even tasteless. ramsey was a cartoonish villain the way that joffrey was; but joffrey was a just a spoiled brat. ramsey was a true psychopath.

i've enjoyed the first 2 episodes thoroughly, and i think it's been a way to apologize for the previous season, which was probably the weakest of all of them.

the last 4 episodes i'm sure are going to be gangbusters.

But that 21 gun salute(I counted) that Jon Snow administered to Ramsey was pretty damn good.

I walked in and my GF was watching it.. I saw 4-5 minutes and it sucked. Too dark.. couldn't see dick. I'll give it a rewatch tonight but I'm assuming it sucks..like the first 2 episodes this season.

I nailed that episode. While she didn't pick the Night King off with that spear she did do him in to kill him and his army in the process. She must have decided that if she wanted to have sex again with her weapon making hero, she'd better kill off the Zombie guy and his army.

The only bad part of this episode to me was once again weak assed Brann. Other than I guess being bait to lure the Night King in, we still don't know what his shit is ultimately up to? On the plus side, other than Arya's role was Theon's valor and getting acknowledged by Brann. Also, the deaths of the two Mormont's, including little lady Mormont, killing the Giant with her knife to his eye.

I agree. Major letdowns the entire episode. This is the War of the North, the Wall falls, Jon is the Prince that was Promised and was the Lord Commander of the NightsWatch. He kills the Night King, that is why he was resurrected by Melisandre. This was cop out writing. Everyone had dragonglass weapons, how were the wights getting reanimated again? And why not just dig a ditch and fill it with dragonglass and light it on fire - problem solved. The dragon scenes were impossible to follow and the part in the crypts where Sansa and Tyrion were hiding was also cop out writing. Tyrion is begging to go fight and all of a sudden he is hiding when he has a dragonglass dagger and knows that works to kill the wights? Nope. Very disappointing.

I'm interested in hearing a coherent reason explaining why this episode was any good.

I thought it sucked.

From a technical perspective, it failed since it was impossible to tell what was happening in many scenes.

It was also a failure from a storytelling perspective since the demise of the Night King and the Army of the Dead almost seemed to happen by chance--and rather abruptly at that. This episode had years of buildup but delivered little payoff.
