Really? I guess I've been watching the wrong show then. I have ZERO percent interest in watching heroes slaughter CGI zombies.

Why did you think the NK had humanlike motivations? He wanted a permanent night(death to all) and he built an army for it. He didn't care about the drama between the houses. He was death on a horse. It was clear through the whole series. Was he supposed to suddenly start talking and tell Bran he is doing this because the Mad King killed his father?

This is dead wrong. There was practically a whole season devoted to his backstory which also functioned as Bran's self-discovery journey.
What do we not know about him? His motivations are clear. His purpose is clear. He wanted everyone to die. That was always his purpose.

Too bad one of us wasn't there. Jon Snow is one of the worst generals in history.

Yes, charging blindly into an unseen enemy was not an ideal choice.

I don't know what his motivations were but I hoped he was more than just a monster for SuperArya to kill.

The writers of this show really fucked up the entire clash of the Night King vs. the living. 7 seasons of build-up leading to 1 CGI suckfest that might as well have been a Michael Bay Transformers movie.

Don't get me wrong, the action was well done, but at the expense of plot. The entire idea of the White Walkers being like dracula is dumb. Even dumber was his fucking slow Bond villain like walk and staring at Bran. These are the types of tropes GoT should avoid.

Also, these writers suck, no character of consequence died, just a few C characters and dickless Theon.

Dumbest sequence of the episode? Lady Mormont killing the giant. You can tell this is just fan service at this point. Character was liked by morons on Twitter so have to give her epic death so people can pretend characters died. Had George RR Martin written this, she would've charged in and then gotten pulverized in a second before even having anything resembling a chance of landing a blow.

So Jon Snow just pitched a shutout in the World Series and now he gets to drop down to A-ball to face the Golden Company? The more I think about it, the more idiotic this show has become and I'm getting angrier that I am wasting my time on it.

I don't think it is now Jon Snow vs Cersei. It is Jon Snow vs Dany.

I suppose they could save the show by having Dany or Sansa take a real heel turn, but that still doesn't mitigate the waste of time that was the insertion of The Walking Dead into a show where it was completely unnecessary.

You're honestly satisfied if that was the conclusion of the Night King plotline? (I'm holding out some hope that it wasn't.)

Yes. I didn't need the NK to give some long speech or be revealed to be the Mad King. He was a very cool character who wasn't complex.

They ruined him when they applied Dracula rules to him and his army.

I don't think I have seen a show have such a great first 4 seasons followed by such awful 4 concluding seasons since Dexter

Her whole existence was created to appease an annoying twitter group of pseudo-feminists anyway. No way could she have died in any other way than “OMG BADASS!!!”. I wholly agree it was stupid. She was a pretty annoying character since she was created.

I will say that they have ruined Dany this season. She has no control even with two dragons and she still destroyed the whole plan because her first army died.

The first minute of the battle was epic. tens of thousands of Dothraki charge in and die in seconds, yet somehow the rest of the army, not even mounted on horses can hold them off? really?

I wouldn't mind a humbled Dany having to fight a power hungry Littlefinger-influenced Sansa with a weakened army and no dragons.

It just felt made up at the last second. Everything about the battle seemed like it was one giant plot hole. Why did Jon get surrounded at the Battle of the Bastards? He charged in against the plan.

This time he allowed his entire cavalry to be wiped out for what looks like was the admittedly interesting visual of the flaming swords gradually going out. Zero growth in the character though. Charge in against a larger force without any repercussions. Robb Stark got killed because he allowed his honor to get in the way of smart politics. Jon Snow continuously makes terrible decisions, but get's bailed out by chance.

I have no problem with the way the Night King died, but it would have been nice to have a reason for him to be there. Otherwise it's nothing more than we needed him to die so he wandered into his own death because we have these actors under contract for only so many hours this year.

Sepinwall encapsulates it nicely as well. Even if I disagree about his Arya opinion.

With the HUGE caviat of the writer having read the books.

There are MANY (myself included) who haven’t read them. I tend to believe that those who did have a much more critical eye toward the plot development than thise who didn’t.

Yup. "The book was better" has been a common theme from season 1. Now they compare it to the hypothetical books that ended it.

I think this is a better and more balanced summation than the WP review Ogie posted.

You can apply the “the books are better” mantra to practically anything that was ever made into movies/series, so, yup.

You can't apply that to The Godfather

The show was a great adaptation of the books. It’s not an adaptation of the books any longer, nor has it been for at least 2 seasons.

And I wasn’t a fan of “Dance With Dragons” and felt the show actually was moving the story along better at that time.

I just think had Martin completed his series before the show even started, there wouldn’t have been so many shifts in storytelling and narrative twists.

Right. Once they had to come up with their own stuff it ran off the rails a bit.
