I think they were so hell bent on getting Rian Johnson, who had some nice cred from directing a couple of the best Breaking Bad episodes, that they let him do whatever he want with zero regard for Force Awakens.

after TLJ came out on bluray and streaming, I was watching some of the behind the scenes/making of hoping to see a starting point or some insight into how they crafted their ideas for the movie. One thing I noticed, Rian Johnson had a fucking Wormtongue on his hip the entire process. From script to edit, this fucking guy was around for seemingly every damn decision and was voicing his opinion on shit. I cant remember what his name was, from what I can remember, he wasn't a big name in the production, IIRC... but I got a feeling about this guy that he may have had his own agenda and tried to get as much of it as he could into Johnson's head.

Anyone else watch those Making Of and notice something similar?

I always thought she was. Even though they said in the last movie she was a nobody. Came from loser parents that abandoned her. It's a lie that will be revealed in this movie. Kind of like we didn't know Luke was Darth's son.

She has Jedi Powers. You only get those if you are related to a Jedi.

She's either Lea's/Han's daughter or Luke's daughter. I think it's Luke.

they never planned on luke being vader's son until they started Empire Strikes Back. If they make her the child of skywalker or Kenobi or someone like that, it goes against the whole point of her story arc. the universe is bigger than skywalkers. the force isn't just Jedi or Sith. Anyone can be force sensitive and it doesn't mean they have to join some religious cult built around perceived good and bad uses of it.

would be cheap as hell to just be like "oh, of course we found you because you're the daughter of famous JEDI ______." as a fan, you should demand better story telling than that.

Well, not really. She has the force. Was shown in Empire and RoTJ. Not that specific ability, but its not a large leap to believe she'd be able to do that. The beef should be that it looked cheesy. Not that it happened. Or, that it didn't really amount to anything other than her living. If that were the case, why have her get blown out of the ship anyway? Just have her survive the blast.

I liked the trailer. Thought it was bad ass seeing Rey do that back flip. I'm guessing she landed in the ship, killed the pilot and took control of the aircraft.

I liked how she timed the thing. She looked back to know when to begin her run.

By the way, Rey does not run like a girl.

I think Skywalker will be the new term to describe "Jedi" like the kid who force reached for the broom.

Also, let's remember Luke's story arc when referring to Rey. Dude never flew a ship and suddenly saves the universe for a few years. Anakin...never been in a ship, suddenly one of the best pilots in the fleet at age 8. Trying to justify the Star Wars universe is pointless.

Also...Disney has their eyes on everything, all the time.
